So...Gray didn't start tonight? Please tell me it's nothing.

Sorry, I saw that on Twitter like 30 minutes after my post but work was too busy and I forgot.

Oklahoma was saying it was more for matchups than weather but whatever. Clearly some severe weather hit Oklahoma today.

Appel: 8.1 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 9 K

A bit better than his last couple outings (still a lot of hits, though). Did surrender the walk-off RBI single.

This was against a very good Oregon team (should host a regional)... And absolutely no use to UCLA in the Pac-12 race.

Gray threw 7 1/3 innings of two-hit ball, allowed one run and struck out seven batters. He fanned the first five batters he faced — his fastball hit between 97 mph and 102 mph during that stretch — and had a no-hitter going into the sixth inning before Texas Tech shortstop Tim Proudfoot broke it up with a single to right. The start was not his best — he showed some frustration at times — and had a 4 1/3-inning stretch in which he did not record a strikeout, but he was overpowering Red Raider batters all day as they did not take too many aggressive swings throughout the game.

I love how he throws a 2-hitter into the 8th and is frustrated with himself.

I just have a feeling the Astros will take Gray. Because of the stuff mentioned above, rumblings of 102+ MPH, plus when you factor in cost, I really think we'll have a shot at Appel.

@A_Jude Stanford RHP Mark Appel, a potential No. 1 pick in MLB draft, sitting 94-96 mph. Has touched 97. At least 10 scouts here.

I'll have some of what the [expletive] Ford is smoking.

His rationales were contradictory, and rambling. He wants all high schoolers because that's how you stockpile all stars and isn't interested in the safe bet of college guys just because they are close, then he picks a guy because he thinks he's closest to the majors. Lot of "looks the part" comments.

His rationale was listed there (I don't agree with it), but picking Kaminsky over higher ceiling prep guys like Meadows, Crawford, Smith and Ball is odd.

Prep OF Ryan Boldt hurt his knee over the weeked and his season might be over. Before the injury, he was projected as a first rounder; the injury is apparenty a big issue for scouts because he had very little in-game action this year since the Minnesota prep season starts so late.

Ed (San Mateo) Ok, its May now. When do you expect your first mock draft to be published?

Klaw  (1:10 PM) Week after next. Right now, I'd project the top five to go Gray, Appel, Bryant, Manaea, Moran. Most people I talk to expect the Astros to try to cut a deal with Gray to use the extra money on someone who falls at 40, like Stewart.

There's no way Stewart falls like that, right? Personally, I still don't know which of Gray or Appel I'd prefer.

Same. I'm slightly leaning Appel, though, so I woudn't be heartbroken if that played out that way.

So tough to say I wouldn't want the guy going 100+ deep in games, though.

I want the flame thrower. I am hoping folks thinking the Astros are going to do what they did last year is simply because of a lack of imagination.

I want Appel. If the Astros take Appel I kind of want Bryant over Gray, if our scouts are near certain he can stick at 3B. That being said I wouldn't mind Gray at all if Appel goes #1.
