Having that much money just means you can gamble more and not have to worry about eating a bad contract when the gamble goes bad

While we're out buying a rooftop building here and there, the Dodgers group is out spending 350 mill on a production company, the LA Sparks, a Global Media company and are looking to buy a Sports TV channel, among other things.

Looks down on them in the standings

We're set up great. I'm only responding to the ability to spend. They've got the rest of MLB by a mile in THAT aspect.

Yeah, I don't envy their team or the position they're in standings-wise; I just want that mad phat cash.

Part of me wonders if Friedman can handle having unlimited spending ability. I know that sounds dumb, but he's been so disciplined in the past, it makes me wonder if he'll make some of the moves they need to make.

They needed to grab one of the elite SP's at the deadline. With where their team is at age-wise and all, missing out on all 3 of them was a true failure for them, in my eyes. Prospects for them are interchangeable with all the money theyve spent/will spend on IFA's. Even worse though, was their lack of adding elite pen arms over the offseason, when it had bit them the year before. Andrew Miller should have been a must get for them, but they didn't come close to matching the Yanks for him when they should have. If not him, they should have spent on others.

He's made some moves utilizing his monetary advantage and its possible that in 2-3 years his roster will look ungodly. But he's been fairly cautious so far compared to what they've got the ability to do.

How exactly is a $300 million payroll cautious?

No idea, but if they have a $300 million payroll I also have no idea how you can accuse the GM of being cautious.

Really? Come on. The vast majority of their payroll was inherited. They're not capped even now. He had the ability to grab Lester or Scherzer this offseason-he chose McCarthy and Brett Anderson. He could have spent serious money on the pen-he absolutely didnt. He had the ability to add a frontline SP at the deadline(and bullpen help too). He got Wood and Latos.

Not saying those are bad moves, but if you've got a team in the middle of their win curve, led by 2 pitchers on top of that, I think it's extremely fair to say he's been cautious. They need an elite addition or two, definitively have the ability to do it. And have not. That's cautious.

Just looking at statistics from 2001 and holy [expletive] I forgot how much these stats looked like video game numbers.

The stat that really got me was Bonds had an .863 SLG%. Steroids or not how is that even possible. For reference, Rizzo is 6th in baseball with now with a .940 OPS. Bonds SLG% would be higher than any Cubs OPS except Rizzo and Schwarber.

That's why anyone who acts like they were appalled by it at the time is a dirty, stinkin' liar. It was so much fun

And from 1999-2003, Pedro Martinez had a 2.10 ERA and a 1.95 FIP.

Greatest pitcher of all time. I'll fight anyone who says otherwise.
