Who's mad over it? Just seems goofy to me.

Ok, maybe mad was the wrong word.

Zach Zaidman was on the radio getting himself all twisted into a pretzel over it. I just think it's a silly criticism.

Watching Quick Pitch and they show highlights of the Yankees vs Phillies and Jimmy Fallon is in the front row wearing a Yanks hat. Did he really sell out on the Red Sox now that he hosts The Tonight Show??

Pretty sure he was always a Yankees fan. He was only a Sox fan in skits and movies.

This is terrific.

Jon Hamm had an affinity for the Mets in Mad Men and now that it's over suddenly he's a freaking Cardinals fan? WTF?

Eh, I kinda get it with Fallon because it was on both SNL and Pitch Perfect that he did some of the Red Sox stuff. And fandom are one of those things that gets brought over to TV/movie characters occasionally.

He was making fun of idiot Red Sox fans on SNL and is an actor who is from NY.

And this guy got pissed off about him "bailing" on his imaginary team without taking two seconds two consider that maybe the NY born and raised person was not actually a Red Sox fan in real life.

Getting in on this late but with Donaldson and Jeter years ago and other less notables diving head first into the stands for balls, you'd think someone holding an infant in the first row would be more interested in tracking the 230lb dude charging towards him and not a worthless foul ball, but whatever. It all worked out for the dork but yeah, he's no hero.

It was probably more likely the ball bounce and carom towards the child than Gonzalez to completely overestimate where the ball would land and dive super-man-style over the tarp and into the stands. Especially since he wasn't running full speed.

same. i can kind of see how it makes sense but it is hard to believe without holding/swinging one.

Never used one to hit a pitch, but Baden is a hop/skip/jump away from us and they're our supplier for our little league. I got to swing one a few times. It felt fine but I've never been bothered by the round handle and knob so it didn't feel revolutionary I guess. Would have loved to hit a few and see if it made a difference with contact.

In that situation, sure. Dude has his eye on the ball the whole time, not Gonzalez. So he had no idea if he was running full speed or not, under control, etc. Seems like a weekly occurrence where an under control first baseman catches a ball over the rail and has their momentum take them into the seats, knocking [expletive] over. And then there's the "other fan" wild card who isn't paying attention to you or what you're holding, either... Never forget goofy Red Sox fan.

Whatever. Make fun of me all you want. Someday something bad will happen to an infant on those sidelines because it's parents aren't paying attention to them. :(

And then you will be vindicated!

Soooo...what was the guy supposed to do? If he sits there protecting his baby, it doesn't stop Gonzalez from diving headlong into him trying for the ball.

I guess if you're arguing that the guy shouldn't buy tickets that close while bringing an infant to the game, maybe that's probably a valid argument...especially with the problems with flying bats this season.

Hey, why bring a kid to the stadium at all what with the random acts of violence by drunk fans! And forget getting into a car, that right there is basically child abuse.

Screw that. I sat in the same general vicinity with an infant one time. It was great.

Stop worrying about what other people are doing.

Bringing an infant to a game (or a movie, or an amusement park, or.....) seems like more trouble than it's worth, but as long as said infant doesn't actively ruin my experience, who cares?

It is actually pretty easy to enjoy a game with an infant in tow. A 2 year old is another story.
