As if we needed more reasons to want a universal DH.

It was a bunt fielding drill. He wasn't bunting himself.

oh

well we'd still have a lot less bunting and thus reason to practice fielding them

obviously because who the [expletive] wastes their time with stupid ass bunts when you have a good hitter hitting instead of the awful pitcher

Gritty lead off hitters and the meathead managers who love them. On the next Maury.

Mark Appel missed his most recent ST start due to arm tightness as well.

We'll never know if it's true because draft information that isn't actual picks is always suspect, but man did the Astros ever do us a favor if we really did have Appel over Bryant.

I usually instantly turn the channel when the Yankees are on but caught myself watching today. Holy [expletive] Dellin Betances! I knew he was really [expletive] good, but had never really watched him. Filthy, filthy stuff.

Jonah Keri had a fascinating Q&A with an arm injury expert to examine the rise in pitcher injuries:

http://grantland.com/the-triangle/tommy-john-epidemic-elbow-surgery-glenn-fleisig-yu-darvish/

Now for the reality: There were three studies published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine recently, and they all looked at everyone who had Tommy John surgery as a major league pitcher since 1999. Of the three studies, one had 38 major leaguers who’d had Tommy John surgery, another had 147, and another had 179. They each found a control group of equally skilled, statistically similar baseball pitchers who were healthy. One study said that the performance of the guys with Tommy John surgery went up more than the control group. But these other two studies said performance actually went down after Tommy John surgery — and they went down the same as the control group went down.

It’s tough to say what happened in that first study. But the other two studies seem to say that after Tommy John surgery your stats will be essentially what they should’ve been had you never had an injury — no better, no worse.

Also, these three studies looked at how many actually made it back for at least one game in the majors: 80 percent. If you isolate pitchers who made it back and stayed, only 67 percent made it back to the major league level.

Also minor leaguer Steven Brault did a Reddit AMA. Some interesting stuff.

And seriously, scouts ask some weird questions you wouldn't hear anywhere else. I had a scout ask me "Who do you think you look like when you're pitching?" I answered "Jorge De La Rosa" because he was lefty and had a pause in his delivery similar to mine. His answer was "No I mean a white guy. You look like a young Tom Glavine. Thin frame and face, good looking guy on the mound" I was so confused. He was actually talking about my looks, not my pitching style. Scouts, man.
