I could very easily be wrong, but I took that article to mean in-market streaming would be allowed (i.e. you could watch your local FSN games on MLB.TV if this went through), not a full-blown 'every FSN game included' situation.

I think that's the case.

And I'm glad too....I just read an article on Crain's Chicago Business about the Bulls streaming games on NBC Live Sports app and it seems like CSN has been happy with the success so far, as well as the opening of new revenue streams.

New to the ratings mix for CSN Chicago are early performance numbers on free live-streaming of Bulls games locally on the NBC Sports Live Extra app for anybody with a Comcast or AT&T U-verse cable subscription or a Dish Network satellite subscription.

The new service, touted as a tool to serve growing demand for watching TV on the go via mobile devices, is in its first full season under a new deal between the NBA and CSN Chicago's parent company, NBCUniversal.

The 26 Bulls games have accrued over 3 million total minutes of game streaming time through the app, according to Adobe Reports and Analytics, led by the Jan. 27 game against the Golden State Warriors, which saw nearly 6,000 visits to the live stream, totaling nearly 330,000 minutes watched.

Those numbers come with little context for the new service but are forming a baseline measurement for what the network hopes will become a new source of advertising and appease subscribers who want to watch games on mobile devices.

Hopefully this becomes a trend because it never really made much sense to me why they wouldn't allow you to stream local games online.

I was confused by the last couple paragraphs. They mention FOX doing it in the past but needing to authenticate your cable, are they implying that changes? Or just that you can stream if you have the cable? If not, doesn't this devalue cable contracts?

Baseball intends to stop awarding the All-Star Game by alternating leagues and will move toward a Super Bowl-type bidding process, commissioner Rob Manfred told ESPN.com on Thursday.

That process would begin with the 2017 game, because the 2016 game has already been awarded to San Diego. The new system would change a practice that has been in place for the last 82 years, in which All-Star Games were generally awarded by alternating National League and American League cities, barring unusual circumstances.

Probably helps get an AS game to Wrigley sooner than later, I guess.

That's more bad news for us. We were almost certainly getting it once renovations were done.

I don't get how it's more bad news...doesn't it just mean we might get it even more often if it's purely off merit and not just "lets give everyone a turn?"

You have to bid for it. How is that merit?

Because it's competition and the Cubs (and Chicago) should be able to win such competitions on occasion without having to wait 25 years while everyone gets a turn.

Up until this morning when it was announced it would not be done this year, I was not aware that this many people actually liked the Fan Cave.

http://baseballsavant.com/apps/map.php?team=mil&season=2015

Shows the distance traveled in miles by each team. Cubs are more or less where I expected.

Pretty cool.

Damn, Mariners. That sucks.

Without looking at it, I'd assume the teams on the extreme North/South & East/West are going to cover the most distance (Mariners and Marlins)

Mariners have like 7k more miles a year on the Marlins, actually.

Marlins have both Braves and Rays within a shorter distance than Seattle to Oak/SF.

And I would guess Seattle to Houston is further than any divisional opponent for Miami.

Ha. Don't know how I missed that.

13. Chicago Cubs

Big offseason moves: Hired Joe Maddon as manager; signed free-agent LHP Jon Lester; signed RHP Jason Hammel; acquired C Miguel Montero from the Diamondbacks for RHP Jeferson Mejia and RHP Zack Godley; traded OF Justin Ruggiano to the Mariners for RHP Matt Brazis; acquired CF Dexter Fowler from the Rockies for 3B Luis Valbuena and RHP Dan Straily; signed OF Chris Denorfia.

Most intriguing player: Rookie third baseman Kris Bryant likely spends a few weeks in the minors to save the Cubs on service time, but there's a reason he's the No. 1 prospect in baseball. He and Anthony Rizzo are going to be a dominant 3-4 combination for years to come ... and maybe as soon as 2015.

Due for a better year: Javier Baez and Arismendy Alcantara both struggled in their rookie seasons, Baez with a .227 OBP and a season's worth of strikeouts in 52 games and Alcantara with a .254 OBP and a strikeout rate nearly as absurd. Alcantara was slated to be the Cubs' utility guy, playing both outfield and infield, but the acquisition of Fowler means he could battle Baez for the starting job at second base.

Due for a worse year: Kyle Hendricks went 7-2 with a 2.46 ERA in 13 starts down the stretch. He doesn't throw hard or strike out a lot of batters as he relies on an upper-80s sinker. The projection systems see a guy with an ERA around 4.00 -- that low K rate -- and while I like him, it's likely his ERA rises a run or so.

I'm just the messenger: Just pointing out that Lester had a 4.82 ERA in 2012 and 3.75 in 2013. Yes, big 2014, new league, no DH and more cutters instead of four-seamers and he could be even better. But you never know. He may not be as good as he was last year. And then there's Jake Arrieta, former faded prospect turned rotation anchor. He looks like the real deal but ... again ... you never know. Hey, I'm trying. I like the Cubs! I have them ranked 13th!

The final word: If I had more guts I'd predict them to win the division, but they have two strong clubs ahead of them and even the Brewers or Reds are capable of 90 wins. The Cubs are still sorting a few things out and waiting for some of the young guys to mature. Sometimes, teams do break through right away; if Bryant and Jorge Soler are 3-4 win players as rookies and Lester and Arrieta throw 400-plus innings of great baseball, the Cubs could be the big surprise of 2015.

Prediction: 84-78

I'm OK with it as a projection, especially since he outwardly says he's trying to lean conservative on them.
