Interesting development in LA...

The Angels are likely to replace either GM Jerry DiPoto or manager Mike Scioscia before the 2014 season, FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports (in a series of tweets). Morosi explains that there are "philosophical differences" between DiPoto and Scioscia that make continuing on with both of them "not tenable."

Relations between DiPoto and Scioscia have been strained since at least early in the 2012 season, as Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times noted in May of that year. The two disagreed over the firing of hitting coach Mickey Hatcher, and Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports wrote in late 2012 that Scioscia also disliked assistant GM Scott Servais, and was "resistant" to using DiPoto's staff's statistical data.

Jose Fernandez since 6/1: 100.1 IP, 58 hits, 30 BB, 113 K's, 2 HRs allowed. 1.52 ERA

Was watching an MLB Network interview with Votto, and he said his two favorite stats to look at are WAR and OPS. He spoke very intelligently about the ways to judge players and how he'd rate his seasons. Has to drive him crazy when Dusty and some Reds fans bitch about him being too patient.

I would think just about anything Dusty says baseball wise drives him crazy

According to Forbes.com the Astros are on pace to make 99 million dollars this year. You have to wonder how much the Ricketts are pocketing.

Probably not a lot when you factor in debt service.

I asked it earlier in the thread, but seriously... why are teams pitching to him? He's got the 2nd most walks in the AL (2 behind Trout), and 5th most in the majors. Why is he not dwarfing Joey Votto's 101 walks right now? I get Prince Fielder hits behind him, but why would you pitch to the best hitter ever because the guy with .784 OPS hits behind him?

So who's going to win the NL MVP? It appears it's going to come down to Cabrera and Trout again in the AL. I know it's hard to predict who the idiots will vote for, but McCutchen leads the NL in fWAR but doesn't have great numbers other than BA (.320's) for what most voters look at, 17HR, 70ish RBI, and 26 SB. Votto is having a nice year and is 4th in fWAR, Molina is getting some push but his surface numbers are pedestrian (10HR, 60RBI) he is hitting .330, however, and is 7th in fWAR and he has twtw or whatever. Then there's Goldschmidt who leads the NL in HR but he probably won't get the votes because "his team isn't winning/in the playoffs." Hanley has been on a tear for the Dodgers for a while now but he has missed enough time his numbers probably won't be there by the end of the season. With Harvey going down he's out, led NL P in fWAR, then there's Kershaw and Wainwright who are the only other two who would even have a chance and neither of them probably get there. Kershaw only has 13 wins and Wainwright 15, so Kershaw def isn't getting to 20 and Wainwright would almost have to win his remaining games.

The Astros also have a much lower payroll and much higher tv deal.

Brandon Phillips, what a guy!

Phillips: “Hey Dusty, the fat motherf***er on the end is worried about my on-base percentage. Why don’t you tell him to have me bat eighth with my on-base percentage.”

Rosecrans: “I don’t care about …”

Phillips: “Fat motherf***er. Make him happy, Dusty. Fat motherf***er. I’m tired of you talking that negative sh*t on our team, dog. I found out your Twitter name now motherf***er. It’s a wrap.”

Rosecrans: “Wow, took you how many years? Congratulations.”

Baker: “I ain’t in that, man. That’s between you and him.”

Rosecrans: “That’s between him and him.”

Baker: “OK, even better.”
