I want to see both wild card winners sweep their division series, thus creating lots of tears and butthurt about how winning the WC is a secret advantage because you get to keep your momentum and get the first two games at home.

I think the HFA is just for this year

I don't know any story behind this, just saw it in photos, but this is really lame right? Reds appear to have made themselves a trophy for winning the division.

The Reds’ postgame victory celebration Saturday included players drinking from a big, gold trophy cup. Not exactly the Stanley Cup, and not exactly a priceless heirloom.

“I got it from an antique store,” catcher Devin Mesoraco said. “I think it came from talking about the Ohio Cup (Reds-Indians trophy), but I’m not sure.”

As one story goes, outfielder Ryan Ludwick had been talking about “winning the cup.” Mesoraco bought an actual “cup,” which has sat in the middle of the Reds’ clubhouse for about half the season.

“Everybody was happy about the Cup,” Mesoraco said. “We talked about trying to win the Cup every series.”

The WSJ put out a biased announcers index. No one here will be surprised when they learn who the most biased crew was...

It didn't take long for the study to confirm what many baseball observers have long expected. During the White Sox game—a 2-1 win against the Texas Rangers—Harrelson and Stone (but mostly Harrelson) made a whopping 104 biased statements.

To put that in perspective, the Cleveland Indians duo of Matt Underwood and Rick Manning ranked second with just 23 biased comments and 24 of the 30 teams had fewer than 10.

Heh... at least Ozzie got a jab in against someone whose worse than he is...

"If Jeffrey doesn't think I'm doing the job I should do ... it's not the first time he's fired a manager," Guillen told reporters Friday in New York. "Look yourself in the mirror and ask why so many (expletive) managers come through here."

It occurred to me today that if the teams currently in line for full and half playoff spots finish where they are, we have a slightly better than 50% chance that either the Cardinals, White Sox or Dusty Baker will be in the World Series.

that's not how math works.

Just for genericness sake, I went with 25% for a division winner and 12.5% for a wild card winner to make it to the World Series.

If all three teams made it in, the odds of all three being eliminated before the World Series would be (.75)(.75)(.875) or 49.2%.

Did anyone catch the horror that was the MLB Network guys debating who should win AL MVP?

I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

I did not.

I did, however, hear Mark Mulder's response to that question on ESPN. Something like he didn't look at WAR when he played, so it doesn't matter now.

Did WAR even exist when Mark Mulder played?

Here's a cliff notes version:

they declared miggy defense doesnt count because he switched positions. said lets see trout play 2B about 5 times. mitch gave a speech about RUNS and how they WIN games. made it sound like miggy hit 75 HRs and trout is juan pierre. bowa said you can cut and spin the stats all you want but miggy is more valuable. gave the old who would you rather have up with bases loaded down 2 in the 9th argument.

Rob Parker ‏@RobParkerESPN

Where's my pocket protector, glasses, laptop and another date-less night? I wanna fit in. Lol

29m Rob Parker ‏@RobParkerESPN

I've watched that Billy Beane movie 20 times and the A's never won the World Series. Stats so lame, they couldn't add a Hollywood-ending.

1h Rob Parker ‏@RobParkerESPN

To all the stat-geeks that follow @keithlaw: please put ur calculators down and watch the damn game. That's why the A's haven't won jack.

and this

Brandon McCarthy ‏@BMcCarthy32

Those are the words of an 'expert debater'. One who's employed by the biggest sports media company in the country. Embarrassing

@MLB: Marlins sign former prospect Adam Greenberg to 1-day MLB contract. Greenberg will record his first official MLB at-bat on Oct 2 vs Mets.

So The Cubs could give Joe Mather 223 ABs, but couldn't sign Greenerg for 1?

My guess is that he'll get on base, but then morph back into an elderly doctor to save a young girl from choking.

This is actually a really good joke.
