I think I might need to unfollow Goldstein until after the trading deadline, the ignorant hubris is becoming too much too take.

Frankly, a lot of media types are really kind of dickish on twitter though.

As opposed to normal?

At least he's a subject matter expert when it comes to prospects, I can take that as part of his charm. He starts talking about transactions and it gets truly unbearable.

I've never found his endless condescension to meatheads on twitter particularly charming but fair enough. It's actually quite weird because he seems like a much nicer guy on his podcast.

If you can find one that even comes close to him, I'd love to see it.

I think Goldstein's trolling can be pretty funny.

Kevin Goldstein ‏@Kevin_Goldstein

While I'm annoying fan bases: If one of the reasons you think Josh Beckett would be good fit for the Rangers is that he's a Texan, LOL.

That makes no sense, this trade would already be done if we were bending over backwards to trade him there.

Dempster made sure the Dodgers had the Cubs over the barrel. There was hope something might change 3 or 4 days ago. As the deadline approaches the Cubs have to decide whether what little the Dodgers are offering is better than nothing.

2:41pm: Dodgers pitching prospects Zach Lee, Allen Webster, and Chris Reed are all off the table in Dempster talks, tweets Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus.

Way late. Nevermind.

Neither do I, but I can tolerate it for insight I wouldn't otherwise get. When he's saying stupid nonsense about trades though, it's just nauseating.

Well right now scrolling back through my feed doesn't help much, because Goldstein won't shut the hell up. My problem is less with his attitude and more with the sheer volume of it. It'd be tolerable in smaller doses.

Holding on to Dempster, isn't nothing.

Oh I totally agree with this and the above tweet. If he didn't know so much about player development, I'd have unfollowed him ages ago. I just can't imagine anyone coming near to the volume and tone he does.

Somebody set me straight here. I am under the impression that if we offer Dempster the $12.5 million and he declines, then goes and signs with another team, they lose a pick but we don't get anything in return. Do we actually get that pick like we did under the old CBA?

Cubs ideally want to grant Dempster his wish&trade him to LA..but they are NOT going to do that without a real talent exchange

We don't get that pick, we get a supplemental 1st rounder.

I don't blame the Dodgers at all here. Pitching isn't there biggest need and they know Dempster wants to be there. This is totally on Dempster. That said, if the Dodgers want a pitcher, they're going to get to the deadline and realize that anyone better than Dempster will gut them of their system and have to decide whether they want a pitcher or another bat is much more important. In the end, they can have both and give us Webster in the process, saving them from paying more for a different guy. My guess is this is what Theo's trying to explain to Ned.

As for Goldstein, he's worth following, I guess. But, he's said on many occasions that he answers probably one out of every ten questions he gets. Knowing that, then looking at the fact over half of what he answers is strictly to mock people, he's becoming less followable, by the day and I understand if some baseball fans decided against it.

When he gets going, 9 of 10 tweets on my feed are from him. he's prolific.

I'm sure Dempster is a nice guy, but when it comes to baseball trading and negotiations he's a [expletive] moron. Way to ruin whatever leverage we had and piss off your organization and fan base.

Interesting:

Brett Taylor @BleacherNation

It is almost comical how silent sources have become today. For now, I'm hearing nothing. Well played, Cubs.

It'll be another stalemate. Dodgers don't want to offer any real value and Theo is not going to cave in.

When Jim Hendry encountered a stalemate, he ate it.

If was was still GM, The trade would have already been completed for some super gritty white middle infielders who wear Affliction shirts.

Is that because he's fat?

If so, I get it.

Supp first rounder here we come!

I can't wait until Dempster and his petulant ass is off this team.

More like Dempster for another year at $12.5M, here we come, if the outcome you are predicting (no trade) comes to fruition.
