There really doesn't seem to be a market for Garza at this point. EDIT: By that, I mean no one is talking about him at all. Edited by ctcf

As of now, Cubs' plan is to keep Dempster and make qualifying offer to get a draft pick -- unless offers improve. Not close to LAD deal yet.

I hope he rides the bench the rest of the year; I'd rather he do that then grant his wish of sending him to the Dodgers.

That makes absolutely no sense.

Why not? He ruined the Delgado trade and destroyed all the leverage with the Dodgers. Unless they offer a decent package, I don't want him to see the field again.

Wow, talk about destroying the good will of your fan base in a very short period. I wouldn't be surprised if Dempster gets booed if he starts for us at Wrigley again this year.

No love for froot loops, apparently.

Good chance both Dempster and Garza are with Cubs after July 31st deadline.

Stop equating Dempster and Garza being on the team. Garza is a good [expletive] pitcher, is young, and is signed next year.

Garza is a given. He's damaged goods. He took a step back this year and is hurt. Maybe if he was anything close to what he was last year a team would take a chance, but I'd hate my team for giving up value for him in his situation at the moment.

plus, you know, he's injured.

My "[expletive]" is more in response to the fact that the Cubs likely won't be able to move anything at the deadline.

He'll look great on a 75 win team.

So will Starlin Castro, [expletive] him too.

Don't get me started on Anthony Rizzo, I bet we could get Brian Matusz AND Chris Tillman for him.

I didn't expect the Cubs to go to the playoffs or even finish with a record near .500,

but Jesus Christ, this team can't even do a [expletive] firesale right.

Ryan Dempster trade possibility remains alive, source says, but #Cubs frustrated. Result of lost leverage. #Dodgers

What are you mad at the Cubs for? They had a great deal negotiated and either Dempster was just wishy washy or was just pissed that it was leaked by the Braves.

Yes, this is entirely the team's fault.

I guess it is though, because Ryan Dempster is still on this [expletive] team.

Who are we blaming here? The Cubs don't have a lot of control over this Dempster thing, you know that, right? Also, they can't make Garza magically not be hurt, or not have a kid.

Cubs could lock up Garza for 5 years tomorrow and I would be perfectly fine with it.

Dempster is definitely going to be a missed opportunity.

Do 10 and 5 rights still apply in the case of a waiver situation? If the Cubs waive Dempster after the deadline, and someone makes a claim, can they work out a trade without Dempster being able to reject?

I'm not mad at Dempster, he is playing by the rules. I'm mad at the owners who allowed the union to negotiate 10/5 rights (and have been for years). Let the most expensive, declining skills assets on the team have all the power in trade negotiations between organizations as a default rule. Wow.

And Dempster is a good [expletive] pitcher, may not be young, and we can either have next year for 12.5 mil, which will be less than Garza or get a draft pick in his place. We can even Keep Maholm. Theo's job does not depend on how closely we resemble the Astros in 2013.

Ok. I figured they probably had to, but thought I'd ask.
