There needs to be a changes. There needs to be no more of not making changes and keeping these scrubs in just because they don't want to hurt their feelings and confidence with this new regime. Guys like Marmol and DeWitt should no longer be in.

Actually, one of the best things about this regime is they aren't stupid enough to let short term, small sample size failures dictate moves.

That said, the leash on Marmol has officially been way too long.

If Marmol pulled a Z and packed up and left, would anyone care? Fans, management, team?

Considering the ridiculous kerfuffle when it happened last year, yes, lots of people would care.

I don't blame them necessarily for sticking with Marmol to this point. Marmol had 4 mostly dominating years as a shutdown reliever, so I feel like he earned a chance to dig out of it this year, at least in April. Plus the team is going nowhere and at worst you'd like to have him string a few good performances together to give him some trade value. At this point though the Cubs can no longer ignore the fact that the pitches he used to dominate previously are completely ineffective the last 2 years and there are no signs of him coming out of it. After today I would expect them to make a move. At this point, any time Marmol pitches, he's hurting his trade value.

Dammit. Too bad Barney has no speed.

I swear, it's like I have to remind myself every game that he has no speed; I just expect him to have some quickness.

yet Marmol is nibbling the entire time with offspeed pitches when he should just be coming right at him.

I don't think what he does is nibbling. He just physically cannot throw strikes.

Yeah, this is what I have thought for a long while now.

Lahair getting pitch-arounds now.

I don't blame teams. The Cubs have nothing to put behind him. Treat him as if you'd treat Padres Adrian Gonzalez.

I have no doubt he's even having trouble throwing the fastball, but I'm convinced a big part of him not even trying with it is a drop in velocity. That should have been his go-to facing Harris; if he manages to get a hit off of you with as horrendous as he's been, oh well.

Oh, that's why they pitched around LaHair. Soriano was removed for defensive purposes.

Even if Soriano was still in there, they probably still would have pitched around LaHair to get the R-R matchup.

When Dolis gets the loss in a second here, that will retract from his chances of being the new closer. But I still think he's the best option.

in what way is he the best option
