I think Hendry was the one who promised him a chance to start in spring training, and Theo/Dale followed through on that. So my guess is yes. Who knows if guys like Maholm would've been on the roster.

Maybe it was Quade. Someone from the previous regime promised him an opportunity because he went into the offseason training to be a starter.

Has it been announced if Samardzija is going to be on any sort of innings limit this year? I would think they wouldn't want him to go much past 160, 180 at the most.

They haven't announced an IP limit, but it's been said that they have a plan laid out to make sure they get him extra days of rest here and there, and to monitor his workload in individual outings. His start being pushed back a day was intentional to give him extra rest, and then the rainout gave him another day.

Haha. His umpire rants are awesome. I really hope Len and Bob are calling games for years. Well, Len especially.

 

What a fun game to watch. I've found this season very enjoyable so far. Maybe its because I have zero expectations for the season and still have Jackson and Rizzo to look forward to. If Demp can stay strong a front three of Garza, Dempster, Shark is really strong. Throw in a solid Maholm and Volstad (gotta figure his Stewart luck will run dry) and the cubs will at least be IN a lot of games this year.

I don't see Len going away for awhile. He's a fan favorite and he seems committed to the Cubs until the end.

I really like Len and Bob. Listening to them talking BAbip and run expectancy in particular base/out states was fantastic.
