3-5 is a lot better than the 1-7 I expected after Wednesday's game.

Not only that, but who would've thought we'd pile up 17 runs (!) against Greinke and Wainwright after the craptastic offense we displayed in our first 6 games.

Yeah, that's why I expected 1-7. Two Cy Young winners and Cardinals' opening day.

Edit: nevermind, I always think Wainwright won the CY but he didn't

Shark just knows how to win.

They basically sacrificed his ERA to ensure that he got the W. one meaningless stat for another. I was listening to that long on the radio on the way home from work. He had 2 strikes on pretty much every batter and then they'd get him.

The Cubs are now the 4th highest scoring team in the majors.

Like I said, if the rest of these guys keep looking like a big league ball club and Byrd and Soto remain dead weight, there's only so much time before they're replaced. Dare I say:

1. DeJesus RF

2. Barney 2B

3. Castro SS

4. Rizzo 1B

5. Stewart 3B

6. Soriano LF

7. LaHair RF

8. Castillo C

I don't love Barney hitting 2nd, but with Castro seemingly adapting to the 3 spot, I don't know who else.

THE CUBS ARE NOT CALLING RIZZO UP EARLY.

you're not allowed to play 2 rightfielders-also byrd hit the ball hard today. his career stats are every bit as good as DeJesus over a very long period so it seems that they should end up very close. losing your mind over 5 games is bit crazy

No, not really. DeJesus has been worth more career wins both offensively and defensively. Byrd's career numbers have been propped up by his last two seasons in Texas, whereas DeJesus has been much more consistent (aside from least year, when he was struggling with injuries). DeJesus gets on base more and is a superior defender.

Also, Byrd plays CF, which makes his days here numbered by default. And he's in the last year of his contract.

i'm really impressed by that, considering the caliber pitching we've faced:

Strasburg

Gio Gonzalez

Zimmermann

Marcum

Narveson

Gallardo

Greinke

Wainwright

that list is a veritable murderer's row

Lol that's so horrible.

Take away 2 brutal Wood/Marmol innings and 1 awful Maholm inning and the Cubs are 6-2. Could be 7-1 just as easily with game 3 of the Brewers series.

Not losing my mind, I'm just saying IF he doesn't pick it up. I'll be very surprised if he doest end up with something silar to his 2011 line, although I'd prefer closer to '09-'10.

Now I really do think that we could use some help in the pen. I'm not so sure Marmol's coming back. Baseball history seems littered with closers who had 2-3 dominat seasons and then fell off the map. Marmol's main weapon was the swing and miss, and no only is his velo down, batters have learned that if they stop swinging at his wild nastyness he'll have to throw actual strikes taking away much of his effectiveness.

One of these things is not like the others...

(hint - it's Narveson)
