2 questions:

1. Was our lack of offense due more to Strasberg or our lack of offense or a bit of both?

2. Was their lack of offense due more to Dempster or their lack of offense or a bit of both?

Strasburg and Dempster, with a little bit of help from the wind. Both should have given up multi-run HRs in the first inning but the wind saved them, but after that both were dominant.

Three positives:

- Dempster was awesome, better than Strasburg.

- Stewart killed a ball, and scored the Cubs' only run.

- Soriano was making solid contact all game.

Three negatives:

- Baserunning ran the Cubs into at least two outs, which may have been valuable in a one-run game.

- Wood had trouble finding the plate, compounded by the umpire not giving borderline calls.

- Barney was nigh useless offensively.

Like most here I am not expecting a lot of victories this year but that was horrible. The at bat by Jeff Baker in the 9th inning was disgusting.

On the bright side, by losing an MLB game today, our scouting and development got better. At least that's how I've been told it works...

Let's not be any more obtuse than normal, Kyle.

If the wind was neutral or blowing out, Cubs would have lost at least 6-1

Because the HRs the Cubs would have hit wouldn't have counted, I suppose?

Yeah, that #5 was the last pitch to Byrd. That was the one that looked messed up.

Why are you even pretending to still be a Cubs fan?

Why would being unhappy about a loss and a bad team mean that I'm not really a Cubs fan? Odd perspective.

6-4. Soriano and Stewart each would have had homers.

Forgot about the Soriano one.

You can be unhappy about that stuff, but just attacking every move we make is pretty shortsighted. We obviously have some pretty intelligent people in place to run things, why not let them do what they do for a bit before murdering their every move?

The fact that they are intelligent is what makes this so annoying. If they had been trying to put together a good team, they probably could have done it.

Not one they deemed could have won the whole thing, which is the real goal. They need time to clear out the mess that was left.

Ya, by spending stupid money on players that don't deserve it. Let's go out and give Fielder an 8 year deal just to make it seem like we're trying to win next year. WOOOOOO.

You guys realize that almost nobody scored runs today throughout the entire league?

Stewart's swing looked good, Soriano was locked in, and of course Demp was awesome... other than that it was a pretty standard Cubs opening day.

This team won't be that bad.

It sucks to lose on opening day. A lot but the fact is, even if they signed a bunch of players who could have helped us win it all this year, we still could have lost today. We lost .006 of our games this year. Whatever.

kyle, take note... when aramis fan is being more optimistic than you, it's probably time to dial it down a bit.

Your opinion has been noted and given all due weight.
