I don't know...I despise Miller Lite well beyond my typical disdain for mass market beers. Just can't stand the stuff.

I prefer Miller over Bud by a fairly good amount, but it's not like I'm not drinking Old Style or Bud at Wrigley where I have no other choice (that is, as far as the vendors and most of the concession counters go - i realize there are other options in the park).

well, actually, gonna sound a bit hypocritical here, but the only way i'll drink old style is if i'm already a few deep and the old style guy walks by and i'm not wanting to wait for the next guy or walk down a flight of stairs to the concessions. i'll do my best to avoid old style if i can, even against bud which i also hate.

if baffles me how moist some Chicagoland residents get over Yeungling, so... to each their own.

HUH?????

Yuengling is a PA beer adored by ignorant PA residents and expats but it is terrible.

Maybe they weren't Chicagoland residents then, but I seem to recall several people on this forum in the beer thread say things to the effect of "I was able to bring back a 12 pack of Yuengling from my trip to [wherever]!!!" or "My friend came and visited me and brought me some Yuengling!!!" or "Anyone know where I can find Yuengling?". Also I remember someone mentioning the locals in their town up north were going bonkers of Yuengling being available.

EDIT: After a search it turns out that was pretty much just mjohnson saying all those things. Though I did see a smattering of Derwood and Castro's Spray Chart giving it some extreme love. And Rocket mentioned the Dayton locals going nuts over Yuengling. And nilodnayr insulting people who liked it for being in college.

Goose Island is an upgrade, but their latest marketing insistence that they're a Chicago beer is pathetic. They are owned by St. Louis and brewed in New York. If the Cubs were serious about offering local craft brews they would have picked one of the many qualified candidates that's actually from here.

Selling out has its benefits, but there are consequences as well. Goose can't have it both ways.

Alright, calm down. It is a Chicago beer brand. It's readily available throughout NY and NJ and for that I am thankful, because it is good and I enjoy it.

There are better choices that are actually still made in Chicago.

It is unrealistic to expect them to choose to partner with the most purely Chicago microbrew, whatever the hell you decide that is. It is a business, and they need to maximize revenue.

Yeah, they're not going to announce a big partnership deal (which is what this is as Goose Island just happens to be part of) with Revolution or something.

Sure, I was just responding to the article's mention of "Chicago-influenced beers". It's silly.

Most of which would be insanely expensive, even relative to Wrigley's usual wallet-gouging.

Are you saying Goose Island is not a Chicago influenced beer?

Shut up. This is a ridiculous quibble and shut up.

Yuengling is a fine pizza eating, party in the back yard beer

I remember when Goose Island was a single restaurant on Clybourn (or Elston? one of thise diagonal streets) that DID brew its own beer (sniff)

As recently as 2010, when I went there and did the "tour" there, they still brewed there. I'm not really sure if they do after the whole acquisition thing.

And it's Clybourn.

They brew there, but only for the bar/pub. It's great beer no matter where it's made, except for the 312.

InBev doesn't own the Goose Island bar/pubs (Wrigleyville and LP) and yeah they still brew there.

Nah, never got the PBR resurgence. That's on some nasty Natty Ice/Milwuakee's Best-level [expletive].

Now the one minor resurgence I DO get is the "classic brew" Schlitz or whatever they're calling it. Nothing great, but definitely a good ballpark/sittin' around/mowing the lawn beer that I wouldn't mind seeing show up.

this bar in carbondale did (still does?) "tin can tuesdays" and gave you a punch card with 30 american-style adjunct lagers. if you drank them all, you got a t-shirt. there were regional specialties such as schaefer and stag(lol), as well as northern powerhouses like hamm's, stroh's, and blatz. people can make all the contrived reasons they want, but the style of beer is just junk (literally junk brewed with the cheapest cereal grains that money can buy and blended so people don't notice the differences batch-to-batch). all of those brands are probably owned by millercoors now, not because they made an inferior product, but because they didn't pay enough for advertising. anyone who claims to enjoy the watery, metallic, seltzer qualities of those beers has bad taste

Yup. It's one of those things where I don't think there's anything subjective about the experience; it's just horrible and anyone who says they like it is lying.

At least you guys can drink the good stuff. I'm jealous. I'm now down to mass produced beers (and some liquor) as to what I can drink. I used to be able to drink everything like 2 years ago, but now any craft beers I break out in hives and get allergic reactions so I stick with Coors/Bud Light/Miller Lite.

This isnt rocket surgery

They're broke and/or cheap

you drink that [expletive] don't you

this falls into the "contrived reasons" category. cheap is a choice, not a condition, and is thus no excuse. if you're broke and you need to lower yourself to vortexing miller lite down your face, then you're likely circling the drain anyway. craft beer can be had on a budget
