Punishment for Saints players involved in the bounty scandal will come as soon as today, and Goodell doesn't sound forgiving.

Goodell told NFL Network’s Rich Eisen in an interview for an upcoming edition of the Rich Eisen Podcast that bounty discipline is coming “soon,” and he dismisses the notion floated by some that the players shouldn’t be punished because they were merely doing what their coach told them to do.

“[The] evidence was clear that the players embraced it,” Goodell said. “I don’t think they are absolved from responsibility.”

had to figure that the "Shady Louisiana" was going to come out of the Saints eventually.

I am going to withhold judgment on this one until more evidence is presented than an unnamed source. Even if it didn't happen the damage is already done by this report since it's going to be damn near impossible to disprove because of the passage of time and because the alleged wiretap was dismantled 7 years ago.

If it is true then Loomis and everyone else still employed with knowledge of it should be fired immediately.

The #Packers have told S Nick Collins this morning that he will be released. They are not comfortable with him playing again. Collins is still in the process of deciding whether he will play again, but the Packers told him they don't feel like he should return from having a single-level cervical fusion surgery. Collins has had his tests reviewed by five different specialists and it doesn't appear there's a consensus that the Packers feel it would be safe for him to play.

Umenyiora says he'll keep his current contract, if he's dealt. Might could be had for a 3rd rounder and his cap hit would be under 4 mill.

i can't get over Brandon Weeden being older than Alex Smith

I just don't see taking a 28 (or 29?) year old in the first round. The upside just doesn't seem like it's there. Taking him in the second I can see, but I guess I want more than 4-5 years (tops) of high level production out of my first rounder.

Not that it's been particularly entertaining recently, but this is still big news I think:

Sources say that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, who has previously voiced his displeasure with the lack of competitiveness of recent Pro Bowl games, is strongly considering suspending this year's game, sources say.

Beyond 2013, another league source believes the Pro Bowl is "DOA (dead on arrival)."

I would rather watch a skills compitition than the Pro-Bowl.

I don't think an NFL skills competition would draw much audience, to be honest.

I'm glad the writer clarified that one for us.

Eh, I'm of the opinion that Pro Bowls and All-Star games are a relic from an era where you'd need to see an All-Star game to get a chance to see most of those players play in a given year, with limited TV deals and no internet exposure. These days, it just makes more sense to award an All-Star team in name only, and just do it to recognize players that excel in their positions. Especially in the NFL, where being named an All-Pro is already a bigger deal than being named to the Pro Bowl.

Am I the only one who doesn't think Luck is going to be that good in the NFL?

I saw him maybe a half dozen times and was never impressed. But I don't have a strong track record of judging college QBs and their chances in the NFL.

I think it's more likely he ends up like a Matt Ryan/Schaub type (not comparing skills, but production which would be above average to good) than it is he ends up in the same category as Rodgers, Brady, Brees.
