I'm not saying that they're all innocent little boyscouts, but it's a bit too easy for some hose bag groupie to go home with one of these guys with full intentions of letting them have their way and then crying rape afterword. At least Castros accuser is said to be in her 20's.

It's also all too easy for scumbag athletes to do whatever they want because they know people will think like you, so accusations will never stick.

We don't know right now, so I don't see why Castro or the woman should be getting the benefit of the doubt. We just don't know.

It's very interesting that no other major outlets are writing about the story yet (as of 9 am), and that the reporter on SCR felt the need to explain why it was newsworthy at this moment. Might be an interesting journalistic ethics investigation (for those who find that stuff interesting).

This seems like some 20 something chick just trying to make a buck. She probably did it willingly and then realized that she had an opportunity to cash in on it.

This happens (Kobe, Ben, etc) and the athletes usually recover from whatever it did to their reputation once people realize it was a bunch of B.S. I wouldn't be too concerned unless more negative information comes out.

Yeah no one ever talks about Rapelisberger or Kobes exploits in Colorado anymore.

More importantly, Starlin Castro isn't Kobe Bryant or Ben Roethlisberger. He's a 21 year old just starting to make a name for himself so if anything does come out of this he'll have a rougher road ahead than those two who were established superstars of their respective sports.

"Should sexual assault accusations be reported, and who's names should appear" is an argument even I don't feel like having. That's a humongous sinkhole of complications and suck.

It actually wasn't that part I was thinking of. It was more of the timing and/or the sourcing. There was nothing reported whatsoever on either of the two dailies' websites, which means they're having trouble getting confirmation of any kind.

Agreed, but while I tend to give the edge to the atlete for the fact that more often than not these guys can pretty much pick out what they want and something else the next night. While we don't know much about who this girl is, if she's in her early 20's as reported, there's a good chance she's in college, out of college and either has a low paying or entrance level job, waiting tables or working retail, or no job at all. While anywhere between $250K-$1 mil or so may seem like spare change in baseball money, to someone like that it's pretty huge even if they are from a well off family.

so if the girl reported this to the police on september 30th, how is this just now coming out?

I saw Brett on BN mentioning that it was rumored this fall, but my guess is that Castro wasn't around. The article mentions him heading to the Dominican the following day, and he's supposed to be back for Cubs Convention next week.

let's not gloss over this fact:

No criminal charges have been filed, but Castro is reportedly wanted for questioning by Chicago Police.

The police may feel it isn't worth pursuing once they talk to him.

This is where hardcore and WSR finally merge and become one.

I doubt there will ever be charges, because the there's almost no chance of getting a conviction. It's nothing but he said/she said.

That still leaves us with Castro either being the victim of a false accusation or a sexual assailant.

That's a pretty large assumption you are making.

Personally, it doesn't really matter to me at that point, outside of Castro being a Ramirez/Zambrano replacement for the Kaplans and Rozners of the world.

Yeah, I really don't know how you prosecute this case given the info at hand. If the reports are correct she voluntarily went to Castro's place black out drunk and woke up to him assaulting her without consent. It's a he said/she said case in which the 'she said' testimony is in question because she was admittedly blacked out drunk.

It's easy to just pluck that sentence and ignore the rest which is just explaining why something like this can be more than worthwhile to someone looking to score some easy money.

I really don't think that Castro flat out raped or sexually assaulted this girl. However, the more likely scenerio is that it's pretty much what happens about a hundred times in this country every prom night where boy and girl have a bit too much to drink and it ends up leading to people making. The girl usually gets the benfit out the doubt, however, as long as there are only two people in the room at the time(if not, Starlin, you rascal) and they're the only ones who know what really happened. In the end, there won't be enough evidence for anything to come out of it and The Cubs will end up giving her a generous cash settlement to go away rather than taking it to court.

yeah, after seeing all the comprehensive evidence laid out as it has been, i tend to agree.

yeah, i don't think a three paragraph article on a website is enough to convict.

dude the girl is probably a waitress, what else do you need to know? you can't swing a dead cat at an applebees without hitting a waitress that's falsely accused an athlete of rape.
