i'll just go ahead and insert my annual lament that none of the hapless teams that fired or will fire their head coach (jacksonville, st louis, bucs, chiefs, maybe colts) will hire marty schottenheimer as head coach. say what you will about his playoff record, but the guy has consistently turned bad teams into winners.

Coaches can still be fired after the Monday after the regular season ends. That said, if the Chargers want to continue being mediocre that badly, then more power to them.

It's not just that they haven't been fired yet, it's that they announced Smith and Turner will return in 2012.

$40 million in cap room after 2012 and Fisher will get a say in GM. It's not definite though.

I don't see much of a problem with it. He's from the Parcells/Belichick tree and seems to be widely respected by his players and among his peers.

Adding to what's already been said, it sounds like the Miami organization is a mess internally (from what some national guy have said anyway) and that's probably one of the big reasons Fisher wouldn't want to go there.
