And UMF's proud streak of not being the most panicky person here continues...

On a random note: I've always wondered how much sleep front offices/agents actually get in periods like this. While I'm sure it varies greatly depending on the team and situation, I wonder how many all-nighters are going on right now.

I don't think we overpaid for Campbell because of Cutler's injury, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't at least a little concerned about the thumb. I'm no doctor, but permanently losing flexibility in the thumb of the throwing hand for a QB who throws as hard as Cutler does is at least worth monitoring once camp starts.

Jason Campbell gets 3.5 million. Jeez...

See yeah, 3.5 million is way too much for someone who could very well not see the field this year. They basically spent 15% of their available cap space on an insurance policy.

If they had this insurance policy last year, they get into the playoffs, with Cutler coming back.

Right it's a reactive move. If you are walking down the street and get struck by lightning, do you wrap yourself in rubber everywhere you go for the rest of your life?

You only have a certain amount of money you are allowed to spend in the NFL and its up to the GM to determine how likely something like that will happen again. Based on recent NFL history it's highly unlikely that Cutler is going to miss 6 games with a random injury and his backup is going to be pathetically bad. Heck if we started McCowb from the start we could have easily won the Broncos and Chiefs game putting us in the playoffs (I think). You don't need a 3.5 million backup QB when there are glaring holes that need to be addressed with available FA money.

Winston has visits set and Bears aren't one of them. Landry does as well and it doesn't appear we're in on him either now. DE, I guess is top priority, we finished 2nd on Mincey. If we miss on Mario and Wimbley doesn't get cut, do we go after O Line, or maybe Hawthorne? How about adding Manningham to go with Marshall and ending the WR hunt completely?

You know what I hate? When I am attending a local function and a random fight breaks out causing me to flee as quickly as possible. But not quickly enough to prevent my wife from randomly getting hit in the face with a bee- I mean beverage container.

Of course after that occurs I calmly take the wife to the hospital and then return to the scene to ID the hooligans and assist the police in any way I can.

Free agent CB Kelvin Hayden has a scheduled visit with da bears tomorrow

Even with Jennings, the Bears only have 3 CBs on the roster, so still need 2 more. I'd rather draft 2 guys than sign anybody. But Hayden would be a solid, cheap signing. Hell, if the Bears can sign a DE and bring in an OT, I'd think that would put Dre Kirkpatrick strongly in the mix for the 9th pick.

Hayden was somebody the Bears looked like they might sign last offseason if I recall.

Yep. They brought him in and then declined to sign him. He started just 1 game last year (played in 8) for Atlanta.

Of course there's another reason he means something to the bears that I won't bring up.

Anthony Herrera is visiting the Bears today. Omiyale replacement? Hayden and Herrera are both pretty underwhelming guys, unless we look at them as depth, nothing more. As for Marshall, if he IS suspended, I hate to say I don't care, but I don't. We NEED him bigtime and the other guys are basically bought up now. We need to make this work, keep him out of trouble from here on out and keep Jay protected. If we can do that, our offense is going to be very good.

If Marshall is suspended for 4-6 games, could the Bears try to void the trade?

Would Dallas Clark be on the Bears' radar?

why on earth would they try to void the trade?

marshall, if the statement is rather true, won't be suspended anyway.

Bears sign Eric Weems to 3 year deal. Again, solid special teams guy, but I think we've frittered away enough money to where the pipe dream known as Mario, has been flushed away.

Man they have been signing some serious ST depth.

Weems pretty much takes Hurd's spot and can return kicks which I assume we can't count on Knox for now.

And Weems got a DUI in 2009, so Emery was correct when talking about bringing in Playmakers, unfortunately, it's like the Playmakers from the ESPN show...
