Sean Jensen ‏ @skjensen

Bills are headed in right direction, and they are aggressively after Mario Williams. But, don't count #Bears out...

Sean Jensen ‏ @skjensen

To be clear: I'm not saying #Bears are going to land Mario Williams. But, I was told they are still in the mix...

Sean Jensen ‏ @skjensen

Very possible... RT @Brace I believe he's using the Bills as leverage to get the Bears to increase their offer.

That should count as borderline trolling at this stage.

Oh FFS... Apparently Mario will not sign with Buffalo right away and will visit other teams.

Instead, Mario Williams will leave Buffalo without signing and has scheduled a visit with at least one other team, Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports....

...Among the teams that are reportedly still hoping to get an audience with Williams are the Bears and the Titans. Some team will almost certainly make Williams the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history, and that team might be the Bills. But it won’t be today.

I mean on some level I understand the Campbell signing because if Cutler somehow was out for some period of time and the replacement was worthless like last year, they'd look pretty damn bad. Still, a hefty chunk of change.

Yeah but there are plenty of holes on this team, so they could use that 3.5 million to sign players who will actually be guaranteed to play football this year. If you have addressed all you've wanted to address in FA and still have some cap space, I'm all for it. But if this prevents us from picking up someone like Mario Williams, its a horrible move. It's an overreaction based on last year.

I do really like Campbell though.

Hah, told you he wouldnt sign tonight. Don't like reading that he'll be the highest paid defensive player in NFL history though. I think that will knock the Bears out of this if they haven't been already.

Rotoworld with a notably negative view on Buffalo's chances, for what that's worth:

NFL.com's Jason La Canfora reports free agent DE/OLB Mario Williams will leave Buffalo without signing, and is expected to make at least one more visit.

The Bills had Williams right where they wanted him, but couldn't seal the deal. Williams does not appear to be ruling out taking his talents to Buffalo, but the odds have certainly decreased. It's unknown where else Williams is planning to visit, but NFL.com's Michael Lombardi reported Tuesday the Bears have dropped out of the running.

Jason Campbell gets 3.5 million. Jeez...

See yeah, 3.5 million is way too much for someone who could very well not see the field this year. They basically spent 15% of their available cap space on an insurance policy.

This deal actually makes me a little nervous about Cutler's recovery. We've kind of taken it for granted that he's going to be the same football player next season, when he had a pretty tricky throwing hand injury...

If they had this insurance policy last year, they get into the playoffs, with Cutler coming back.

Adam Schefter ‏ @AdamSchefter

Bears WR Brandon Marshall was involved in another incident that could lead to an NFL review. More shortly at http://ESPN.com.

Hope this isn't something that could lead to a suspension.

was just posting this...

WTF?!?!

Well nothing surprises me with Marshall, lets hope we have a better network around to help keep him out of trouble. If he misses a few games, we'll survive. Hell of a first day anyway, don't even want to contemplate Mario. Mincey would be a hell of a get himself. Glad we're being agressive as hell.

Statement from Brandon Marshalls Attorney Harvey Steinberg regarding Club incident:

"On March 12,2012 Brandon Marshall was the key note speaker at a charitable event in New York. After the event was over he, his wife and close friends attended a function at a local club. While at the function a fight broke out NOT involving Mr. Marshall or his friends. While attempting to leave to avoid the melee Mrs. Marshall was struck in the face by a thrown bottle. She suffered serious injury. While attempting to leave and take his wife to the hospital, the mayhem continued outside. Finally Mr. Marshall was able to take his wife to the hospital where she was treated for serious injuries. Mr. Marshall is hoping to assist authorities in regards to this matter."

I bet the Mincey signing is disappointing for Emery. I like the Meacham signing for San Diego.

With Mincey gone, I wonder where the Bears turn the efforts now? I'd imagine they're following the Gathier and Wimbley situations closely.

I love lawyer-speak. "Function at a local club" is fantastic. Hopefully that's reflective of what actually went down. Certainly wouldn't be the first time this happened to an athlete.

Right now, I'm hoping Emery is reminding McCaskey and Phillips that money isn't an issue and we have a brand new superstar at DE by the time we all wake up. Who am I kidding, I'm too wired to sleep.
