no

And Forte isn't exactly young in RB years...especially when you consider the miles in college on top of his NFL workload.

Oh and FYI,

:39PMest:3/22/12:**UPDATED NFL RUMORS**Sources: Matt Forte is obviously unhappy with situation in Chicago -n- now 3 teams have emerged in "Exploratory" trade talks. Cleveland Browns have made contact with the Bears & are showing interest in the *Pro Bowl RB* (Forte), my source is saying interest is real high at this point. Also Patriots & Bucs have called about Matt today (Pats are willing to give up 2nd but not a 1st) - Bucs interest is not as much at this point, Tampa source is stating the call was just to see if Forte is available (Could get more involved later in the week) Bears are not asking for picks or players yet, but that could change before the week is over. In closing the Jets are not interested!

Where's that from?

He had his best statistical season last year (or at least did until the injury), and many people were finally noticing how valuable he is. In terms of pure performance, he has never been as desirable as he is right now. The injury he had is not expected to slow him or his career down from everything I've read, and wanting out has little to nothing to do with his value. The Bears can keep him if they really want to duke it out over signing the franchise tag, and they can franchise him again next year if they really want to. True Forte can force the Bears to do something by sitting out a season, but even after today's outburst, the situation is still rectifiable if they want it to be.

so give me a [expletive] break minnesotawhatever

for years, the Bears have pissed all over their o-line, and in that time, Forte has steadily produced at almost elite level. Put him behind NE's line with Brady, and you will see what he's really capable of.

its asinine to pretend like this is all Forte's issue. Frankly, he needs to fire his agent. but the Bears have never been known to have wonderful management either. They sure as hell didnt play this perfectly

You can't be [expletive] serious, man.

Are you not aware of the career expectancy of RBs and how relatively low it is compared to the rest of the positions?

Additionally, are you unaware of the fact that Forte has had an extremely heavy workload to this point and is coming off a fairly serious lower body injury?

What have the Bears done wrong? They've gotten the best production out of him for cheap and haven't given in to his ridiculous contract demands (and even offered him a reasonable deal when they had no reason to) despite his very petulant quest for a new contract. I couldn't be happier with how they've handled this. Smart teams do not invest big money in RB's (short of someone like AP).

everything I've read about his injury suggests it isn't expected to be career threatening/altering/effecting in any way. Its not like he had his f-in neck fused (WTG BRONCOS).

Yea, I understand the premises behind the "ton of miles" argument. But what I dont understand and what I've never seen anyone explain is how those years of toil really translate. He's 26. Lets say those years add 2 years to his "football age", then hes 28. Still pretty much in his prime. But what if its just 6 months? To me, the whole argument is pretty suspicious.

if the bears can wrangle a first rounder out of somebody, that would be so awesome. we could take a rb in the 5th or 6th to back up bush and be golden.

Posted
probably not going to get a 1st rd pick at this point. clevelands #2 might be the zenith, but that is a high #2

I could see Browns being dumb enough to trade their 2nd- 1st rounder (#22) for Forte... Although If Bears get a 2nd rounder (it's not enough IMO), hopefully they'll be able to squeeze another pick (3rd or 4th this year). Browns might be willing to give up their 2nd and 3rd for Forte since they got 2- 1st... Doubt Pats would trade both their 2nds since they love to have as many picks as possible.

I'd take Cleveland's 2nd and a 3rd next year. Don't see us getting a 1st honestly. I think this blows over though and he's in camp on time, in the end.

I think its pointless to talk about Forte being slighted unless we know what has been offered and how much he wants.

He's a good RB. But he's not worth Adrian Petersen or Chris Johnson money, and he's not worth Arian Foster money. If his agent is trying to say he's more valuable that an Arian Foster because he accounts for a bigger % of the offense, then I'll side with the Bears.

At this point a 2nd sounds great imo. I'd even do a 2nd and a 4th. Where do I sign?

Forte has alot of mileage on him and he's coming off his best year. How much better can he be? Sell high.

Careful what you read, until you see it on the field. People can say what they want. I'll wait until I see if Matt still has the same zip in his running before drawing any conclusions about the effects of that injury.

As for the Bush signing, I'm alright with it although we still haven't upgraded our line.

I love the idea of signing a backup RB being "disrespectful".

Forte has done a ton for this team, yet every single offseason the Bears have brought in a FA RB and paid him more money. Bringing in Kevin Jones when Forte was a rookie was a non-issue. Paying a bunch of money to Chester Taylor was understandable after Forte came off a down year after 2 years of a lot of touches. Bringing in Marion Barber to do short-yardage was a little slap in the face, but something Forte could overlook. Now they brought in a 4th RB in 4 years. Bush is guaranteed 7 Mil. Forte is only guaranteed 7.7Mil. Sure it's a lot of money, but this is the NFL. Forte blows out his knee this year, it's likely he'll never seen 7.7Mil the rest of his career. Disrespectful is too strong of a word that gets thrown out too much by athletes, but it is a slap in the face when your team keeps paying guys off the street more money than you are making at your same position.

Complete nonsense.

He signed his rookie free agent and these are the rules collectively bargained for. If he was a street free agent he would get a market rate contract, but he is not a street free agent. Those guys were free to sign with anybody and the Bears were the ones that signed them. Forte has been treated perfectly fine by this franchise. They ofference a crap ton of money and he wanted more so he didn't accept all of that money. That's on him.

The Bears have been known to pay their own to stay, and pay them well. They've made their offers and have done everything they should have done with regards to Forte. The fact that he wants top dollar is the holdup, and the Bears would be completely idiotic to offer him top dollar.

The argument that running backs "age" quicker than most other positions is suspicious?

How?

I approve of the word ofference.
