could the sixers win the east? they seem to be a bit less mediocre than pretty much every other year since allen iverson was good.

Love Jrue Holliday.

I don't see any of the up and comers (Sixers, Knicks, Pacers) overtaking Miami and probably Chicago. But they should all fight with the Hawks and maybe the Celtics for the 3rd spot in the East (or possibly the Magic if Howard is not traded, but it would surprise me if they finished 3rd). After these years of dominance, the East is finally catching up to the West.

sorry, i meant to say the atlantic division. they're not as good as miami and chicago, but maybe they could win the atlantic and a first round series? even that would be a huge accomplishment considering that they've been stuck in "barely miss the playoffs or make it as a low seed and get trampled" zone for years now.

also, nikola vucevic is looking like a nice pick so far... 5.2 ppg and 4.4 rpg playing just under one quarter per game. jodie meeks sucks though... if they get serious about the playoffs they should upgrade at the 2-guard.

sixers are 7-2 after blowing out the kings and have the #1 scoring differential in the league... i may need to start paying attention to the nba again.

Yeah, at this point, the Atlantic is probably theirs to lose.

It would be a little funny if Boston and New York slipped to the 7 and 8 seeds and caught Chicago and Miami in the first round.

i can't really figure out why they seem a lot better because the roster isn't hugely different - i guess holiday, thaddeus young, spencer hawes and some of the other guys in the early to mid 20s must be improving and collins' red-ass act is getting them to play elite defense. also, elton brand hasn't gotten hurt yet.

this is kind of a crazy stat - the sixers have won 5 games by more than 20 points. they're the first team to do that in their first 9 games since the 1969-70 knicks.

I'd love a 2-7 rematch against the Bulls.

I don't see how they'd get past Miami or Chicago, they could be a tier below those two though.

yeah like i said, even that would be big progress since they've been stuck in nba purgatory for years now.

they also just got a pair of second round picks and a trade exception of almost $3m for marreese speights, who collins hated (because he was kind of lazy and lousy on defense even when he was trying). i know second round picks aren't great but once in a while you can get a nice player. seems like a good return for a guy who wasn't playing.

god, the heat get pissed at the refs on every single play

That's because they have worked very hard on making sure they never commit any fouls, and those stupid refs are just botching all these calls.

is everyone playing a hellish schedule because of the lockout? the sixers played their 3rd night in a row and 5th game in 6 nights.

yup. bulls just played for the 3rd night in a row also.

i think we're going to see some ugly basketball in the playoffs.

The Lakers started off the year with three games in three days and have already played 12 in 18 days. OKC and Chicago have also played 12 games in 18 days.

I agree with dexter about the playoff basketball likely being ugly. Aren't they talking about a more condensed postseason as well?

Just looking at the Lakers schedule, they end the season two weeks later than last year so their either cramming more games in or run the postseason later into June. That's also going to be a factor in terms of the level of postseason play.

Last year at this time the Bulls played 11 games in 19 days, and 13 games in 22 days. It's really not a huge difference.
