Looks like Theo got into a bidding war and overpaid

New Chicago Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein has paid $3.25 million for a newly-built, 7,800-square-foot house in Lakeview, just blocks from Wrigley Field.

Armed with a five-year, nearly $20 million deal with the Cubs that he signed in October, Epstein, 37, bought the house through a bank trust in late October. The home had been on and off the market since late last year for $2,999,999.

The higher sale price likely either came from upgrades to the home or a bidding war. Although bidding wars are rare in today's housing market, it's noteworthy that Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Sharp also had tried to buy the house. Public records show that Sharp signed a contract to buy the house on Sept. 15, and then canceled the contract on Oct. 21, just five days before Epstein closed on it.

So Theo closed on the house Oct 26th? When was it that he was announced again?

Press Conference was on the 25th. The last week or two he was with the Red Sox he was probably house hunting on the web.

Think about you buying a house for about 80% of your yearly salary. That's what Theo did.

Id be living in Englewood and taking boards off my windows when I move in.

Apparently I live in a sweet location. I live about 4 houses down from the house Billy Corgan lived during his Pumpkins days, 2 blocks from Theo, and 3 from Dempster (all on Greenview ave). Duncan Keith almost lives 3 blocks away on Paulina.

/name dropping.

Maybe Theo wanted to move close to his executive assistant and girl he's tapping on the side.

$3.25 Mil gets you that? I think you could buy a small town in Kansas for that price.

In my neighborhood.

Most expensive house in my city:

And it's only a paltry $2.3 million.

There is a skyscraper in downtown Mobile called the Van Antwerp building. It was the first skyscraper in Alabama, if I'm not mistaken. It's in a state of disrepair, but it's a historical building. 68,000 sq. ft. 11 stories. In 2008 it was for sale for $3.5 million, lol

If I had that much money and needed a home in Chicago, I would just buy a floor atop the Trump Tower.

Yea, that would be a relative pain in the ass to get to Wrigley Field to from every day.

If I lived in that area and worked there, I'd definitely go the walkable route (and, thus, a bit closer to Wrigley than Theo went with).

I think it's safe to say it's location. That place is dinky for the price he paid. But it's probably reallllllly expensive to live that close to Wrigely.

Didn't Sammy Sosa live in Lake Point Tower?

He had his own floor there. Some people would rather walk to work others would rather live downtown and deal with the extra commute. Fwiw I don't feel like that commute is all that bad. The way back would be worse but were talking 30-40 mins tops. The ride from Lakepoint Tower would be much easier as its right on LSD whereas at Trump your gonna have to fight through downtown traffic.
