Since the int'l stuff won't be in place till 2013, next July 2nd is going to be crazy.

Clearly the small market clubs drove the bus on this deal. Surprised the players would agree to this at all. Stunning.

The players don't give a [expletive] because nothing in the deal is a negative for current players. And they still gave up way too much of their leverage to essentially eliminate draft pick compensation, and not much else.

I'm surprised the miser [expletive] owners had enough numbers to pass this horseshit. This is horrendous.

I'd still love to see the elimination of divisions and take the top x number of teams each league for the layoffs.

That's an even worse idea.

no.

Feel the pennant fever and see if the 6th place team can run down the 5th place team!!

Wonder if this means the payroll goes up, because we sure can't spend it on amateur talent anymore.

I mean who can forget that epic chase in the NBA when the Bulls passed the Raptors on the last day of the season to lock down 8th place?

The current division races are similar to this anyway. Simply, you have a team ahead of you (in a division or not) that you need to pass to get into the playoffs. A balanced schedule is a plus as well.

@Kevin_Goldstein: Under the current rules, Zach Lee is a QB at LSU, never on a diamond again.

And as an added bonus you ensure that there will only be at most one race per league.

If you're a fan of a team that's putting huge investments into scouting/draft/international, that's over. Sorry.

Remember Theo's press conference with the Cubs? Remember about the big investment in scouting and development? Bye-bye.

Except for destroying the regional rivalry aspect of things, that's a great idea!

Wait, are we still using green font?

That strikes me as just a smidge knee jerky.

I hope all of the people who approved this deal die in a very painful fashion.

Why would any team waste money building a facility in a foreign country now?

This screws small market teams. They have no margin for error now.

Isn't there still benefit in being able to find the right guy? Why wouldn't you want to be on the ground and have a heads up on who to go after rather than potentially being scooped by some team that swings in with guns/wallets blazing.

It's easier for them to make money now.

Team's guns and wallets will be the same.
