three years from now when the cubs win 101 games and finish in second to the 102-win reds and then lose the play-in game to the 86-win cardinals and i really do the heroin in my forehead thing and die, you guys won't think this is such a great system

Meh, mixed bag.

On the flip side of giving a spot to what could be the 5th best team in the league, you're also giving the 91 win Indians the advantage over the 102 win A's because they happen to be in the midwest. The A's get to play the 85 win Twins in a coin flip for the chance to go play the 95 win Yankees. Should've stayed in Philly, Athletics!

that really just means we should scrap the divisions, though.

i'd be fine with that.

More interleague...hello everyone having the DH.

About damn time, too.

Not really, they will have to do without it as much as we will have to endure it (depending on the balpark). There's no more DH than there was before, thank God. Maybe they'll look at finally getting rid of it and getting back to real baseball.

I really dislike the idea of a 1 game playoff between 2 teams with non-identical records.

Agreed.

I really don't like it. It further cheapens the regular season plus it runs the real risk of drastically affecting the 1 game playoff winner's rotation/bullpen and making them even a bigger underdog in the next round

Or not having the DH, just make it the same.

What if there's a tie for a division? Are we going to have a 1 game playoff between those teams to see who gets to play in a 1 game playoff for the wild card?

Season series?

It actually makes the regular season more important.

It cheapens the regular season for one playoff team (the first wildcard winner), while strengthening it for the other 4 (division winners, second wc team)

Teams have been getting screwed because of their geography for years, oh well. I understand how that sucks, and if they do away with unbalanced scheduling, I'm all for bitching about it.

Depends on how you spin it. A one game playoff for teams without identical records is ridiculous

Not really, the team with the better record has home field advantage. If you want better, you'll have to win the division. Thus the more significant regular season.

No, it doesn't depend on how you spin it. It is more important to win your division instead of coasting by on the wild card. You win your division in the regular season. If you have the better record of the two wild card teams, you get a home game in that one game playoff to win it.

I'd hope so.

The only way I wouldn't mind a three-game series is if you started it the day after the regular season, went exactly three days, and started the playoffs for all eight teams the day after it ended. And even then, you'd have to eliminate all tiebreaker games, which would suck.
