This has to be the worst defense an 8-0 team has ever had. I'll happily take the win, but I have no idea what happened to our defense from last year.

Losing your all world safety certainly doesn't help. Matthews is not at 100 percent and I think they miss Cullen Jenkins more then they thought. I also believe they really take their foot off the gas at times. They did it last year against the Bears in the NFC Title game. They did it against the Saints. They did it against the Vikings 2 weeks ago and they did it today. They were up 45-24 with 10 min left. Is this defense as good as last year? No, not even close. But when your QB is playing at another level your defense doesn't have to be elite like it was last year. Also, Capers has always had more success in the 2nd half of the season compared to the 1st half. Am I worried about it? Yes. Am I panicking yet? No.

i think it's kind of [expletive] to say something like they "took their foot off the gas" in NFC title game. by that token i could say that the bears defense simply didn't come to play in the first quarter, but dominated rodgers and the offense the rest of the game.

I should of rephrased that. I am saying when BJ Raji had his pick 6, I think everyone thought the game was over including the defense. And the Bears did have it's way with the Packers offense the rest of the game. It was not an insult to the Bears at all.

I knew what you meant and you're right. The whole defense thought the game was over after the Raji pick 6 and didn't bother playing on the next drive. We definitely have a tendency of backing off more than the average team does in situations like those.

yeah, the packers only give up touchdowns when they want to or when they aren't paying attention, not because the other team is any good. you're right.

Not what I said at all. Our defense sucks ass this year, period.

The way our defense was reacting on the sideline after the Raji pick 6 would lead me to believe that they thought the game was over. That's all.

The Niners are 7-1 and play 5 of their last 8 against their own division. They could win their division by 10 games.

I bet this is the first time a team has led their division by five games just eight games into the season.

which was the only reason they gave up the touchdowns, right?

It's the NFC title game. Do you honestly think the defense would just stop playing hard 8 minutes away from the game they battled all year to make. Come on man. I could maybe believe that during a regular season game against a non rival.

I could easily see someone getting the Packers in the playoffs if the defense doesn't improve. This is pretty awful.

Oh, absolutely. All it takes is the offense to be out of sync one game in the playoffs and we're done if the D doesn't get it together.

We will NOT win the Super Bowl this year with the D being this bad. It just won't happen. It has to improve significantly if we're going to repeat.

I dunno, the Packers have won 14 games in a row including the playoffs. And in those 14 games, Rodgers has had a +111 QB rating 12 times. The 3 lowest QB ratings in that span all came against the Bears (55.4 - NFC title game, 89.7 - Week 17, 111.4 - Week 3 this year). So as long as you avoid the Bears in the playoffs, I'd say it's likely the offense does not get out of sync for any playoff game.

Awwww.... but it's so fun to beat the Bears in the playoffs! :(

Maybe this time you guys can play defense all game.

And beat our starting QB.

And maybe you guys could actually beat our (relatively) healthy defense instead of a few starters and a bunch of 2nd string guys. :)

Yeah, I'd rather take our defense from last year than whatever happened to this group this year. Maybe that's just me, though.

True. I have no clue what the hell happened. It can't be just the losses of Collins to injury and Jenkins to FA. I'm not a football guru but I don't know what's wrong, but I do know that something is terribly wrong and needs to be fixed, pronto.

If you take the games out that the Packers have played against their opponents to determine what they did against the "normal" teams in the NFL, the Packers SOS is 27 / 58 = .466. This is one area where SOS can be misleading. The Packers are naturally going to have a low SOS because them winning has affected their SOS by .125.

They definitely have had a tougher schedule to this point. At the end of the season the only difference in the two schedules will be Packers vs. St. Louis and at NY Giants. Bears vs. Seahawks and at Philadelphia. Remove the Packers and Bears head-to-head games from the equation and the overall SOS will be very comparable at the end of the season.

In a shocking move, NBC has decided to flex the Pats-Colts game on week 13 back to noon. A replacement night game hasn't been named yet, but likely candidates are Cincy-Pittsburgh, Detroit-New Orleans, and Green Bay-NY Giants.

It's not really all THAT shocking though. No Manning, mediocre Pats....meh.

I mean, I'm sure that NBC thought that was one that was a lock when they scheduled it.
