Levine on ESPN1000 right now. Saying that part of the interview process will be how the candidates handle the Chicago media that will get the chance to speak with them after the formal interview. Said Mackanin will be interviewed(or maybe arriving, he wasn't definitive) tonight, and his media availability will be tomorrow afternoon.

Interesting. That's quite different than most managerial searches. Most are done rather privately with little comment from the candidates.

Unfortunately, I do not trust the Chicago media to ask the questions that I'd like to hear for the most part.

The one that makes Kaplan look like the biggest moron gets the job?

I think this was posted earlier, but without the Theo quote...

The Cubs will not officially interview former Red Sox manager Terry Francona, but Francona remains a candidate.

"I know him like the back of my hand," Epstein said. "He knows me like the back of his hand. I don't think he'd have to (interview)."

The two have already had a conversation about the job, and Epstein said neither was sure it was "the right fit." Epstein added that "this doesn't have to be the 'Boston show,' recreated in Chicago completely."

Epstein is not sure whether it's in his best interest to "work with a new manager," or "live in the past." Still, they may talk again.

"We're going to kind of sit down together and make sure it's a fit," Epstein said. "Clearly he would be at the top of anybody's list as far as available managers. I think that's true of any organization if they were to look at it and say 'Who is somebody with experience, who is a proven winner.' You'd realize he is at or close to the top of the list. But I think it's got to be the right fit here.

"He needs to figure out whether this is right for him, and then as we continue our process and figure out exactly what direction we're headed, exactly who the right fit is for this organization, that would have to be the right fit, too. I'm not sure it is, and 'Tito' is not sure it is. But we have that relationship that transcends the professional side of things... We'll just continue to talk and see if it's the right fit for everybody."

We'll know by next Tuesday. Presser on Wednesday.

Did Theo say that or are you just speculating?

Just got that feeling baby.

If one of these 3, who all seem like solid hires, doesn't blow Theo away, I think we're looking at Francona as our next manager.

It won't be Francona.

I think Boston might be doing something similar; they had a Sveum and Mackinin video commenting on the prospect of coaching the Red Sox on ESPNBoston.com I think it was. Short clip, and I don't know if other media was there and asking questions. Sveum sounded pretty boring, Mackinin looked like some weird hybrid of Joe Maddon and Piniella.

It had more to do with the silver hair when I saw him.

Looks like Mickey Rourke with Michael Douglas' haircut.

I disagree. Further submissions are accepted until we get it right.

Are you suggesting that he correct his apostrophe usage?

No, but I wouldn't have a problem with you doing so. This is allowed.

Boston still has a 160 Million dollar payroll, smart people in the front office and a crap ton of talent on the Roster. It's the second best job in baseball.

Their payroll is also dwarfed by a division rival, ownership threw the last group under the bus despite 2 WS and a bunch of success. 90 win seasons are a huge disappointment. The fan base is insane. Anything less than 2 WS titles in the next decade will be deemed disappointing.

There's a lot of negative about that gig.

In contrast, the Cubs were fairly decent to both Hendry and Quade while nudging them out the door. That may just make them look a bit more attractive than the Sox.
