A couple of minor deals that don't effect us in any way:

Orioles Agree To Terms With Wilson Betemit

By Mark Polishuk [January 23 at 11:59pm CST]

11:59pm: The contract is for two years plus an option for 2014, tweets Connolly.

8:55pm: The Orioles have agreed to sign Wilson Betemit to a one-year, Major League contract, reports Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun (via Twitter). The deal is pending a physical. Betemit is represented by the Wasserman Media Group.

Blue Jays Sign Omar Vizquel

By Mark Polishuk [January 23 at 6:28pm CST]

The Blue Jays have signed 44-year-old infielder Omar Vizquel to a minor league contract that contains an invitation to the Major League Spring Training camp, the team announced. ESPN's Jerry Crasnick (Twitter link) had the scoop first, hearing the news from Adam Katz, Vizquel's agent.

Correct. He's a FA following the 2013 season.

Reds signed LHP Jeff Francis to a minor league contract.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported less than 15 minutes ago that the deal was "close," and now CBS Sports' Jon Heyman is saying it's official. Francis will get a shot at cracking the Reds' starting rotation this spring in major league camp. He posted a disappointing 4.82 ERA and 91/39 K/BB ratio in 183 innings last season for the Rockies, but minor league deals are free of risk. If it doesn't work out, Cincy can simply cast him aside.

Kind of surprised he signed a minor league contract. Quite a bit of talk about him on Rotoworld this off-season so I figured he'd get at least 2 million or so. Decent filler or injury replacement for Cincy.

Don't be surprised if the Phillies look to add a utility man who can add a little more pop than Wilson Valdez--somebody like Ryan Theriot.

Is Buster trolling or what?

.330 career slg vs. .353 career slg is technically a little more pop

Valdez has had an IsoP between 80-100 the past 3 years while Theriot has been 40-70.

Didn't the O's take Flaherty in the Rule 5 draft? Now that they have Betemit they may return Flaherty.

He could also be a utility man/super sub. They already have Robert Andino, but he can't hit his way out of a paper bag.

The Cubs re-signed infielder Bobby Scales, who started the 2011 season in Chicago before going to Japan, Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus tweets.

He'll reportedly get an invite to spring training. Maybe if we stock up enough AAAA middle infielders it will equal 1 good one.

The White Sox signed left-hander Scott Olsen to a minor league contract with a 2013 team option.

The Red Sox signed right-hander John Maine to a minor league contract.

The Reds agreed to sign free agent left-hander Jeff Francis to a minor league deal.

The Astros signed left-hander Zach Duke to a minor league contract that includes an invitation to Spring Training.

Nothing earth shattering, but all pretty decent to get on minor league deals. I'd take any one of them over Rodrigo Lopez.

Cubs signed Trever Miller to a minor league deal with a ST invite. He'll get 800k if he makes the team.

I'd be surprised if he makes the team above a guy like Beliveau, Maine or Gaub though.
