if only there was a way to find out

I'm aware he's at 267 just trying to say that's probably the main reason he's sticking around.

it's not

Thanks Jamie, glad you could stop by.

look, he's pitched in philly (where i lived close to) for 5 years when he was at an advanced age, and he said in interviews that he didn't care about benchmarks but kept playing because he enjoyed it and felt like he had something to offer the phillies. you can choose not to believe him, but considering that he'd likely have to be a starting pitcher for at least 3 more seasons to reach 300 wins, i'd say he's just doing it because he still likes to play.

Doesn't he have about a dozen kids? Maybe he's thinking about all those tuition payments and wedding expenses.

He's made upwards of 90 million thus far in his career. He's gotta be setting pretty well.

Albert Pujols said all last year, 2010, saying it wasn't about the money. It was about winning. Then he leaves the team that wins the title for more money. So forgive me if I don't believe anything that an athlete says when speaking to the press.

It's not like he signed with the Orioles or Pirates. The Angels are usually pretty good and have just as much if not a better chance of winning than the Cards. He'd be dumb to take substantially less money for a comparable chance to win.

Jamie Moyer's motivation for playing at age 49 definitely sounds like the type of topic worth getting into a pissing match over.

I had no idea volleyball players could make that kind of dough

yeah no difference at all between the two players and their situations.

True, poor Albert was barely getting by.

I love when people who couldn't dream of being in a comparable situation act like differences of millions of dollars are trivial to millionaires just because they already can "get by."

I'm not judging him, I'm all for his choice. Just saying a lot of the athletes aren't very forthcoming in their interviews to the press.

Oh look, this debate again.

Cubs Sign Rodrigo Lopez

By Nick Collias [January 19 at 4:06pm CST]

The Cubs have signed Rodrigo Lopez to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training, according to Fernando Ballesteros at the Mexican baseball magazine Puro Béisbol (via Twitter). The team had been reported to be interested in bringing back the journeyman pitcher, and Ballesteros reported on Monday that rumors of the signing began circulating in the Mexican media over the weekend.

Cubs news or not, I figured 36 year old junkballers on minor league deals arent exactly worthy of their own threads.

I laughed at this a little harder than I should have.

As to Rodrigo Lopez... yeah. Whatever. Minor league deal for a pitcher that's perfectly acceptable AAA depth... why not?

Much like Blake DeWitt, I have an irrational dislike for Rodrigo Lopez. Hopefully he gets cut after a Garza trade next week or something.

I can't imagine my reaction to the cutting of Rodrigo Lopez would be any different from my reaction to the signing.

Unhappy with the fact that he who will remain nameless will likely be our starting 1st baseman=rational. Seething hatred for his very existence, especially coming from someone known to be one of the few voices of reason in this disfunctional little online community=not so much.
