And somehow Rosenbloom will spin this into Ricketts being a starry-eyed neophyte fumbling around in naivete.

Really, any people who have trashed on Tom Ricketts for not doing enough a due to eat a titanic helping of crow. Can you imagine now if he had canned Jimbo months ago (like many wanted) and hired whoever was available?

We sure wouldn't have the top three FO we're looking at now.

Mike Murphy even trumped Rosenbloom last Saturday. I had the misfortune of hearing him rant how the hold up at the time was just yet another in a "long line of failures courtesy of Tom Ricketts. He then went on a rampage insisting that the "right way" to have handled this would have been for Ricketts to go to the Red Sox, ask for permission to talk to Theo, then offer them compensation and get them to agree to it...BEFORE HE EVEN TALKS TO EPSTEIN.

oh, the guy with the terrible voice making that argument is Murphy? He's an absolute moron.

The Cubs undoubtedly have the best combination of front office and financial advantage over the rest of the division. It's not even close.

They have the best of each in the division.

I checked back at this post a couple nights ago... I'm pretty pleased with myself.

I think what many of us were realistically (seemingly, prior to last week) hoping for with regard to Ricketts' Red Sox infatuation was a hire of one of Epstein's understudies/cohorts.

To hire Epstein and a big chunk of his entourage is simply spectacular, and not something any of us would have actually anticipated.

And given that as recently as August, the spectre of Hendry serving out the entirety of his contract was hanging over us, this turn of events is just surreal.

I dont care. Has there ever been this level of FRONT OFFICE THIEVERY in any major sports venue before?

HOLY [expletive] [expletive] EPSTEIN HOYER AND MCLEOD

It's the holy trinity, right? Kinda like Prior, Wood and Zambrano am i right? Of course they would be the holy trinity if they could turn this sad sack of crap to a team that can make it to within five outs of the WS next year.

That's pretty funny. In my defense, though, we didn't sign a young, outsider GM. We signed a young, insider GM. :D

I did like the "there are only so many Theo Epsteins" comment. I clearly didn't have any idea how awesome Ricketts really was.

What did I say?

you essentially said firing hendry and hiring someone good would never happen.

[expletive], that must have been a dark time.

I think he's confusing you with TheMojoPin. That guy was a dick.

Nice of you to memorialize him in your sig, though

I think we have the best front office in name and pedigree. Let's wait until we see the results before we can say they are the best.

The results aren't really relevant in discussing how good of a move this is as this time

Ugh, no. Bobby Fischer was the world's greatest othello player.

Idiot.

Would this be the correct place to discuss whether or not the Cubs should be willing to make drastic changes to Wrigley to increase revenue? I used to be on the "no jumbotron ever" bandwagon but would definitely be willing to see one installed on the back side of the bleachers in LF or RF (I would prefer RF) if it's going to make the product on the field better. Also, curious to see what sort of TV deal the Cubs could negotiate whenever their current deal expires.

I hope they go nuts. No problem with more ads, a jumbotron, the renovations, starting their own TV network...DO IT ALL.

I have a friend who has been a season ticket holder for a long time and he claims the Cubs are planning to have their own network by 2014. He heard that in August during the meet and greet the Cubs had with season ticket holders at Wrigley. YES Network is a huge revenue maker for the Yankees.
