I love that Theo gave purple Fanta shirt guy his due.

HE HAS A NAME

The dude posted here as "PurpleShirtGuy" or something. He's owning it.

This.

I think those comments, in addition to the fact that Theo and Hoyer are new to the organization and didn't bring any of our players in, means that it could be an incredibly busy offseason, particularly in the trade market.

I got this same impression.

I did not. I got the impression that the developmental side (minor leagues) would be busy as hell, but the FA (big league team) side not so.

Listening to Epstein talk about Quade one would have to think he is gone. He did say nice things about him and said: "we'll talk", but I think the Quade era is over.

You could be right, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's kept around for the last year of his deal. New GM's typically want to bring in their guy as manager so nothing short of a world series appearance is going to keep Quade beyond 2012 if he does survive this offseason. The sooner the better in my opinion.

Off topic, but people in this thread were wondering about Hollandsworth's shaved dome. Apparently it's a solidarity thing with his sister-in-law who has cancer.

The whole time when he was answering that question about the major league team, I KNEW that "but" was coming about the parallel fronts (and god damn if he didn't do a great job of conveying it). I didn't get the impression that they would be throwing away next year at all. He basically went out of his way to come out and said that the two things aren't at all mutually exclusive.

He could've easily taken the easy way and said nothing but the whole, "It's gonna take time," and nobody, seemingly, would begrudge him that if he did. Everyone seems willing (if not wanting) to be patient and throw away a year or two. But he didn't.

Epstein just met Ronnie Woo Woo

Someone find a way to pin this on Kenney so I can hate him like everyone else.

He very clearly stated that every opporunity to win, every season, is sacred and he's not about to throw away a season.

Theo stressed paying for future performance. If he feels Pujols will continue to perform equally to hs contract he won't be afraid to go after him.

Wasn't there a thing said where Ricketts will allow him to spend big time on one impactful free agent? He said if it's a guy like Adrian Gonzales, who's a beast,a lock for a while to put up great numbers and great clubhouse guy, then he will allow Epstein to do as he pleases.

Yep. :D

EDIT - and [expletive] Bernstein is acting like this was never said so he can keep with his agenda that this is going to take years and that "doing it the right way" means throwing away a couple of seasons. [expletive] that.

I wonder what Quade will say when Theo asks him about his vision for the organization.

Something along the lines of losing, letting him give Russel/Lopez/Ortiz/etc more starts, and of course disciplining Castro and other young guys unfairly. QIAFI.1

I had class during the press conference (lame, I know). I've been able to catch the five minute introduction on ESPN, but does anybody have a link to the full video? I've got the audio, but I want to see Theo's beautiful face.

...

Quade: So umm...my vision for the organization is umm how I see the team operating in the long term which I think will be about getting back to the basics and umm fundamentals and ..."Ah-Bup"?

Theo: ..."Ah-Bup"?

Quade: Yeah like walks and stuff.

Theo: Do you mean "OBP"?

Quade: Heh, oh right. Ah-Bup is an inside joke here with the team heh. No worries Eppy.

Theo: Don't ever call me Eppy again.

*Ryno knocks on the door*

Ryno: Hey Eppy! Did you can tha-- ohhh.....heeeey Mike....how are the kids? Umm....I can swing by later...

CSN usually rebroadcast these things at some point in the evening. I'd be willing to bet that they'd rebroadcast it sometime between 7-10pm

Right. At the same time, it was also pretty clear that he's not going to mortgage the future in order to compete next year. It's definitely going to be a busy offseason. We may see some pretty interesting acquisitions this offseasons that are high-risk/high-reward.

A mortgage is a good thing if you structure it properly and buy the right house.

Bad news is that I go to Marquette, so I'm in the Milwaukee region. Would I be able to stream that on CSNChicago.com?
