I'm not so sure that Hoyer is a real person just yet. He very much appears to be an alias for Chris Kattan that wears suits all the time.

Cardinal fans tweeting Waddle and Silvy calling the Cubs losers for basically attempting to hog the WS spotlight from them.

Ha, deal with it.

yeah, we showed those potential world series champions who's boss!

SUCK IT LOSERS

All he said on compensation is he knows it's not gonna be Szczur, McNutt, or Jackson.

And it's definitely minor leaguers.

Also no (presumably - additional) money going back.

If this is right, I can't imagine what it is the Cubs DID give up. How in the heck did they wear the Red Sox down that much over the course of week or so?

Well, I think it boiled down to a disaster for the Red Sox if they did not get it done. Theo and Luchino really are at a point of no return with each other. Henry feels scorned by Theo and after the initial bitterness wears off, they had to move on.

Man, it must suck to be a Cardinals fan right now and have to deal with this.

Yeah, it must really suck watching them win game 1 in the WS.

The Best Fans In Baseball can't really enjoy this, knowing yet again they are going to sneak away with an undeserved title as the worst team in the playoffs.

It just feels hollow to them.

I'd much rather be in their shoes, of course. That said, the fact Ricketts is under their skin at a time like this makes me smile.

Before we get too giddy (although I am very pleased to hear none of the three are being sent), it's possible Boston decided to go for ceiling and attack our lower levels. I mean, even if we remove draft picks and international signings from this past year, there's still a good crop of high upside talent that they can pick from.

All that said, they do have low level upside talent, and what they needed, more than anything, were some upper level pieces. So, maybe it's something like Rhee/Flaherty/Dolis. Here's hoping, at least.

Gammons as the biggest homer? Dookie, I mean Dickie V says hello.

You can't count former players/coaches, or it's too easy. Hello Mike Ditka and Michael Irvin.

I'm a freaking CUBS fan, and I have to admit it felt a little hollow in 03 when I was imagining what might happen.

Still would've been [expletive] awesome but I actually enjoyed 08 more.

On Twitter, Kaplan said if McNutt is part of the deal, it's just the cost of doing business. So, it kind of sounds like he IS going to be moved.

IMHO, the Red Sox were willing to let it go on forever until the Cubs caved in to their ridiculous and unprecedented compensation requests. The Red Sox could easily continue on with Cherington as the GM, while the Cubs were held hostage. Things reached a stalemate, and Selig stepped in (probably at Rickett's request) and resolved the situation.

Yea, Dickie V in no way counts as a journalist.

Good point, but Vitale went to Seton Hall, and certainly never coached at Duke. Maybe he falls into a different category?

Not sure if this has been posted but the Cubs have been granted permission by MLB to hold the presser tomorrow. This might be the most anticipated press conference in team history.

Hard to say. Nomar, Harden, and even Dusty were all pretty anticipated.
