Hate to be a wet blanket, but I would very much like to know what the compensation is. Kind of scares me that they're saving it for a seperate announcement. Makes me think it's something on the huge side.

they haven't reached it yet

Interesting. Now that it's official, do The Red Sox lose most of the leverage they thought they had? I'm sure we'll give them something fair out of respect that they dont really deserve, but i doubt that it will be anything as huge as I may have earlier thought. Great evening!

Not to hijack this thread, but Prince will be 27 at the start of next season, and Albert 32. Let's say they each demanded an 8 year deal, just for giggles. At the end, that puts Prince at 35 and Albert at 40. Are you saying Pujols would be better from ages 37-40 than Prince at ages 32-35? I know it would be speculation, and I know Prince is hefty, but that just seems completely absurd.

Two main reasons for the existence and rationality of that belief: Prince's weight vs Pujols' excellent physical fitness and Pujols being a once in a lifetime, transcendent talent.

stay away from Albert please, he will break down fast because he WAS a roider. I will not be convinced otherwise. I give him maybe 3 years til his production falls off the table.

This.. and Pujols is a significantly better player to begin with. Last 3 years 21.7 vs. 14.3 WAR.

Even in Albert's down year this year, his 5.4 (worst of career - that's, admittedly, SLIGHTLY worrisome) beat Prince's 5.2 (second best of his career).

Convincing argument.

I wonder how SoSH feels about this...

They will predict that this being a done deal means that the Red Sox have humongous leverage on the Cubs and will begin to extract major talent.

They think the way this worked out is somehow embarrassing to the Cubs, and the Red Sox won the stalemate simply by stalling until after the World Series starting. As if not having Theo in the mold for a week has held up any other moves the Cubs would otherwise have made that they somehow can't make anymore.

It's not even sinking in to me. Theo Epstein is a Cub. Wow. Just hard to believe we've literally done a complete 180 in organizational philosophy within a single season. Unfreakingbelievable.

Wow. A real front office with a coherent philosophy regarding the construction of a ballclub. Amazing.

I just trust the Cubs front office to evaluate carefully and decide which, if either, they want.

Man, that's fun to say.

Haha, that is nice (and weird) to say. Personally, I prefer Pujols but if Theo/Hoyer/McLeod go with Fielder instead, I won't be critical.

Yeah, it probably won't be real to me until I see Theo on the podium with the Cubs logo in the background. I love Ricketts.

It's finally official!!! YES!!!

But what did the Cubs give up? I can't truly celebrate until they announce that...

Oh, what the hell...YEAH!!!!!

The die is cast on that. Whoever they gave up, they gave up, and I'm not going to let some sort of objective assessment ruin how much fun this is.

Let's not forget the man who made this happen

Here's to you, Robert Andino!

Does this mean he's going to join the Cubs in 6 years and get overplayed despite a lack of hitting and defense?

I credit Crane Kenney. He is a beast and got the job done.

2nd. Three cheers for Crane!!!

Hopefully he gets an extension after this.
