So perhaps this Lacey speculation has legs? If we are not giving up to prospects and no cash, it could go down that way. If not, Ricketts is just a mad pimp.

If we're not giving up cash, how are we paying Lackey to play for SD?

Yeah, that makes zero sense.

All he said on compensation is he knows it's not gonna be Szczur, McNutt, or Jackson.

And it's definitely minor leaguers.

Also no (presumably - additional) money going back.

Hmm, assuming that no recent draft picks are involved as some sort of PTBNL, this is good news. My initial hope had been quantity of talent with maybe one or two low-level upside pieces involved. The fact that he left out Vitters name is somewhat interesting, but they have Middlebrooks already. That said, he certainly could be an option since Vitters is likely to go to 1st or corner OF.

Cagney will not be pleased.

Well done sir.

Yes, my bad.

If this is right, I can't imagine what it is the Cubs DID give up. How in the heck did they wear the Red Sox down that much over the course of week or so?

The Lackey thing does seem pretty plausible from all sides.

The Sox get out from under a horrible contract and rid themselves of an unwanted player.

The Padres get a veteran starter with upside for below market value. And their division and ballpark maximize his chances of bouncing back.

The Cubs get their coveted execs for mainly cash.

I agree. I'd be more than OK with it if it happened, and it seems like a good outcome for all involved, but we haven't heard anything about it reported by anybody and all it is is message board speculation so unless you just like to brainstorm up completely imaginary trades, it's not even worth discussing.

But he has about 46 mil remaining on his contract. How much of that does it make sense for us to pay for him to pitch for the Padres? For that kind of money, we should let them have McNutt and sign a starter who's already at his ceiling.

True, would depend greatly on how much we'd pay. We'd have to only be softening the blow for it to be worth it.

I do not mind Murphy's either. However, the bear has live bands and perhaps Theo will bring his guitar.

Excellent point. Perhaps Len will bring his?

And Gammons, too.

Rickett's on vocals.

holy sweet jesus Ricketts is a PIMP

Couple of thoughts: That Rosenbloom article was possibly the dumbest thing ever posted on the site. How he has a job is truly an abomination. Gammons as the biggest homer? Dookie, I mean Dickie V says hello. As far as the news that Theo and Hoyer appear to be done and it doesn't appear as if Jackson, Szczur, or McNutt is involved? Just about time to celebrate fellas.......

They couldn't handle Tom Ricketts' awesomeness.

Levine on Waddle and Silvy.

Epstein will be Cubs president and annoucement to come later today. "The ball is on the 5 yard line and is ready to be pushed in".

Change the thread title!!!!

WOOOOHOOOO!!

Noone else thrown off by the football metaphor for a baseball situation?

He couldn't have said "negotiations are rounding third" or "they're heading to the bottom of the 9th"?

Cardinal fans tweeting Waddle and Silvy calling the Cubs losers for basically attempting to hog the WS spotlight from them.

Ha, deal with it.

Man, it must suck to be a Cardinals fan right now and have to deal with this.
