Mariner's Revenge

Post subject: Re: Theo coming to Chicago Reply with quote

you seriously want Epstein to secretly advise the Cubs while a member of the Red Sox FO for a year? That's insane.

General Managers and Front Office is a rather insulated circle of people who throw around ideas and bounce things off of each other all the time. It would be pretty hard for the MLB to regulate something that is so common place. If Josh Byrnes were to accept the GM position for the Cubs why wouldn't he turn to his old buddy Theo Epstein for a sounding board.

Meanwhile, Theo might have plenty of time on his hands. Just because he's under contract doesn't mean he's welcome back at work, particularly if Cherrington has already assumed his job duties.

Peter Gammons is on WEEI right now. He said that everyone knows that the Cubs have a bottom 3 farm system and the fear of giving up the next Billy Williams is 'absurd.' A top 5 Cubs prospect would slot in at about 25 in the Boston system. He also said that the tedious process is because the people negotiating for the Cubs have no idea who any of their prospects are or what they're worth.

That's the kind of hard-hitting analysis Boston is hearing.

Gammons just needs to hang it up.

I bet Peter Gammons can only name two prospects in the entire system, and that's only because he heard about Brett Jackson and Trey McNutt over the past week. And the Red Sox system hasn't been good for a few years. Jose Iglesias as your #1 prospect? Brett Jackson would slot in at #1 or #2 in that system immediately.

Now I kinda really do want to do another face post, just so I can use this:

What Gammons is saying is stupid and by extension he is stupid, and that's all there is to that.

Buster_ESPN Buster Olney

The perception that BOS's leverage in Theo matter increased by holding up Cubs' business is funny. As if Theo not already making CHC plans.

This whole thing is turning worlds upside down for me.

Early on with Rogers being on top of this better than any other local journalist. Boston looking like a circus instead of an impeccably run organization. Olney also has been on top of this the whole way.

At least Gammons being a drooling incontinent fool can keep you grounded.

Are you sure that's what he said? Any chance you are exaggerating a bit, because that is idiotic and not something I would assume Gammons would say.

It's about the Red Sox. Gammons fanboyism knows no bounds when it comes to them and his pal Larry.

Yeah, I don't believe it either.

This and the fact that Gammons was always a clown and then got a respite for having a stroke or something.

I remember Gammons as one of the first journalists I LOLed at consistently 10-15 years ago.

I don't see what Jeff Foxworthy has to do with this.

Gammons bashed the Cubs' farm system! Let's make fun of his brain aneurysm!

i don't see anyone saying anything negative about brain aneurysms. this thread is pro-aneurysm, if anything.
