Which ones are equal to Theo?

Friedman, Beane, Cashman

Possibly Byrnes, Hoyer, Atlanta guy, Cherington, and the Tampa assistant that's supposed to be really good, Hahn to a lesser extent.

I don't consider that entire list equal, but I consider every one of them to be at least the equal of Epstein + $13 million (in extra salary) plus McNutt.

So they are working for free then? Some of those guys will require compensation too.

I think it's the dismissive tone mixed with wrongness that make it so great.

Why don't you enlighten me instead of attack me?

The Ricketts family must value Theo pretty highly as they haven't walked away.

They value him at $18.5 million over 5 years. That does not mean they value him at $18.5 million over 5 years plus a near-ready top-100 prospect.

I really don't want Epstein to be president and hire a GM. Am I the only one? Not that I don't trust who he'd bring in, but I want him to be both.

The primary reason I want him is to oversee the building of the organization, specifically the scouting and development departments. I have no problem with him passing on the day-to-day GM role.

Yeah I don't disagree with this at all. That's definitely what I want, but I just want him to fill in at both spots.

I get the feeling the GM would just be someone to do Theo's legwork and bidding.

I don't think Epstein wants that either, judging by his comments in the past. I guess the Cubs have to give him some sort of title making him more than a GM though.

I'm really in awe of the mental gymnastics try to justify why the Cubs shouldn't be willing to trade any minor league player for a difference maker like Epstein.

I don't think Kyle has argued that we shouldn't trade any minor leaguer for Epstein. His argument is that we shouldn't trade a top 50 prospect who is within 1-2 years of reaching the majors for Epstein. And I agree.

It's not even 1-2 years. If McNutt stays a Cub and stays healthy, he will be in the majors this year. I'd bet money on it.

I was thinking that might not be clear. By 1-2 years, I meant this upcoming season or the next. I'm thinking he'll be up by late 2012 if he can overcome his injuries and regain his previous form, or early 2013 if it takes longer than we think.

Friedman + McNutt + $millions >> Theo

That I cannot disagree with at all... Friedman is actually my first choice. I'm just buying into the argument he is not a viable option, and that things are too far gone WRT Theo. We're gonna end up giving more than many here want, methinks.

If Theo only gets to bring one person with him, I'm even more certain we shouldn't give McNutt or anyone of any real significance. I'm still in the Jay Jackson/lottery ticket/cash camp.

Until he gives me reason to believe otherwise, I'm going to give Ricketts the benefit of the doubt. I'm expecting good things from his negotiating ability.

This isn't really going out on a limb, but I think the Cubs will give up more than they and we like and Boston will get less than they and their fans want.

There's going to be some hand wringing on both sides, I think.

Ricketts could be using McNutt as an anchor to pry more staff from Boston for Theo. Judging by the latest article it already looks like he and Epstein are thinking strategically.

I trust Ricketts too, in the end I have faith he'll make the good decision no matter who gets the job.

Go to work, earn money, spend time with family or girlfriend, and stop this insanity.

This is worse than the daily knee-jerk minor league reports and who is and isn't a prospect.

They are all prospects, and Theo Epstein is NO GUARANTEE of the coveted, and meaningless Title!!
