There are certainly more than 10 guys in the Cubs organization (majors and minors) who I'm not ok with giving up for Theo. My list probably differs wildly from WSR's (Take Rafael Dolis, please), but to say there aren't 10 guys that are property of the Cubs that you'd have issues giving up(when not necessary) is kangaroo-stab-worthy

Come on now. Two prospects in the 6-10 range is more than fair compensation for Epstein. That's less than the Guillen-Florida deal, for a more important role.

The 6-10 range in one system is not equal to the 6-10 range in another system. The White Sox return on the Guillen trade sucked.

AND WE DIDN'T [expletive] TAMPER WITH EPSTEIN

AND THEO'S GETTING A PROMOTION

AND THEY'VE ALREADY HIRED HIS REPLACEMENT

AND THEY'D OWE HIM 6.5M IF THEY KEEP HIM JUST TO BE DICKS

I can't believe Truffle's going to let all of Australia burn just because he wants the Cubs to trade Trey McNutt.

The Red Sox are going to let $6.5 million burn, and that's certainly worth more than the entirety of Australia.

laugh now; when you're enslaved by australia in 5 years we'll see who's laughing.

I saw that, too. But it appears that it is indeed his hotel number. Messed up.

How do you know?

The latest from Cafardo.

http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2011/10/slim_pickings_f.html

One of the problems in coming up with a deal for Theo Epstein is that the Cubs have so few prospects that even appeal to the Red Sox.

The ones they have, they want to keep.

"Couldn't Theo have picked the Texas Rangers or the Tampa Bay Rays?" quipped one American League general manager. "It's got to be difficult to make a deal given the pool of players you want is so limited."

The problem in attempting to come up with compensation is precisely the problem that Epstein will face as head of that organization.

So Tuesday is here and we're heading into mid-day and nothing has happened. Doesn't mean it won't on the last day a major announcement can be made prior to the World Series.

What's been amusing are reports out of Chicago that Larry Lucchino has been difficult to deal with in this process. Difficult? The Cubs, realizing they have nothing, are trying to hold to that nothing.

"It sounds like the process, from what I've heard second hand, has been quite frustrating on the Red Sox end," said the GM.

Here's one suggestion: maybe they should deal Epstein to the Cubs for a player to be named later? Because the players being named now don't knock your Sox off.

dick.

Seriously. Did you call every hotel in the Chicago area? And no way in hell is he going to post his hotel number.

Fact: Cubs season ticket waiting list was at 120,575 this morning, longer than Bozo's Circus waiting list, I think.

is clown kenney a member of that circus?

I doubt Nick Cafardo is too worried about stalkers or even people that would care enough to prank call him...even if there were slim chance said stalker would figure out what hotel it was.

John Henry:

Theo agreed to a deal with the Cubs, so we asked for Garza back yadda yadda yadda, Wellington Castillo is our new starting catcher.

Posted

Did the Red Sox minors take that huge a leap forward that they have the high-ground to mock the Cubs system incessantly?

Prior to the Garza trade, the Cubs system was ranked 16th. The Red Sox were ranked 17th.

Someone wanna guess how many hotels are 19 stories or higher in chicago? I'm gonna guess that it's enough to make even the stalkiest stalker too lazy to figure out.

Before all of this, I was very indifferent about the Red Sox. Now I can say that I dislike them for being this ridiculous about a situation that THEY created with Epstein. He has wanted out because of a perceived lack of appreciation from Lucchino. John Henry then states he will allow Epstein to go (or talk) if it's a non lateral move.

The Cubs offer Theo just that and now they play hardball. We are trying to be fair but they are just being awipes about it. I hope Ricketts remembers this in future dealings with these pricks.

I'm on the "in favor of the Cubs playing hardball" side - but show me where he stated this.

Red Sox fans to Cubs fans: You can't possibly expect to go from Epstein to some young, saber-savvy executive without losing significantly. Going with your second choice here will be brutal!
