Day 2 of "Theo Fest" 2011..Keep the celebration going!

According to John Dennis of WEEI in Boston, the Red Sox and Cubs will start talks regarding compensation for Theo Epstein on Thursday.

Previous reports have indicated that talks were already underway, but that's apparently not the case. Regardless, the Red Sox are expected to receive either a minor leaguer (though not a top prospect) or cash in return. Epstein has reportedly agreed to a five-year contract worth between $15-20 million to join the Cubs' front office.

I wonder what Theo is actually doing this week. He can't really start work on the Cubs till the whole compensation thing is completed, and surely the Sox aren't allowing him access to their resources. Time to burn some sick days?

I think he hacked C.C.'s account and has been posting here the last couple of days in an effort to lessen the enthusiasm so that when he starts actually working for the Cubs, his awesomeness will be fully revealed and appreciated by all.

No, I'm just being realistic. The man isn't a Cub yet. Settle down until it's official.

I don't think I've been this excited since we got Nomar. Harden was close. And this is much more of a surprise to me, than either of them were honestly.

For me the closest thing is the Bears getting Cutler.

For pure, raw excitement about a transaction? Garciaparra is the only comparable I can think of. Non-Cubs division, maybe Hossa.

But Prior didn't have a track record in the majors. Cutler was a young NFL QB with a few years under his belt. Theo is a young, highly touted GM with a couple WS wins under his belt. Prior wasn't the same...for me.

Let's sacrifice and devour C.C. for the glory of our new lord and master.

Can it be just you?

you are the worst

I'm sorry maybe the next sacrifice someone will include you.

I could really see Lucchino making this tough on the Cubs, if only because he wants it known that he's not going to let his employees go easily. Also because its been said he has an adversarial relationship with Theo and would probably want to get as much as he can possibly get for him, even if relative to what people are speculation it isn't a lot.

Oh man, I remember having his scouting report from B.A. just printed out and carrying it around in my pocket.

Remember us hanging on his every pinch in the minors? The Prior signing was pretty damn exciting. Probably the best Cub moment until now. If the deal gets completed.

Saw Theo's beautiful face on the cover of the Red Eye this morning and got a big smile.

and a little wood. Admit it.
