I honestly wouldnt be too upset taking Lackey if we give up Z in the deal. I still think there's a potential upside to him moving to the NL Central and getting past his marital issues. Might backfire too but I can't see him being as bad as he was last year as a Cub.

I agree, I think Lackey would be a better NL pitcher than he was in the AL. If the deal is Theo and Lackey the Cubs are getting a pretty damn good deal. Now just imagine if Theo hires Francona :-k

Hey All:

This is Noah Pinzur. I am the one who broke the story to the Chicago Tribune. I am glad after all the nasty comments most of you wrote about me, you will all have to eat your words. Whether he signs or not, he WAS here in Chicago.

Purple Shirt Guy! You're a legend. I don't remember seeing any nasty comments. I think people were just amazed at the fact that a newspaper as big as the Tribune ran with your story.

Yeah, I'm sure there were nasty comments somewhere, but I don't remember many (if any at all) on this site.

Jon Heyman reports the deal is likely somewhere from 1-5 years for more than $1 million annually.

Come on man, it was a wild story from "some guy in a purple shirt". Twitter is having a lot of fun with the 99.9% sure thing though. You're a semi-internet celebrity. Grats!

Jon Heyman reports the deal could or could not take place and it could be for something more than 1 year for probably more than $1 million annually.

@TBrownYahoo Tim Brown Hearing Red Sox owners are making play to keep Theo in town, but won't ask him to continue in job he doesn't want

No. You've lost, Boston. If you love Theo, set him free.

I'm just glad we're not going through all of this just for a month of Theo. That's such a relief.

Unreal. Trying to temper my excitement as well, especially with what happened with Beane and Boston years ago. But, hard not to get excited. Ricketts has definitely made me a believer.

i'm more concerned about what they're giving up than actually getting epstein.

This. I'm very excited about Theo possibly (probably?) coming to save the Cubs, but the inner pessimist in me is worried that we will do something stupid just to get him.

This looks like spin. "Theo didn't want to be here..." seems like tactically leaked CYA.

or with epstein like 5 years ago when he resigned as GM and then came back on board a couple of months later.

I'm reporting that Pujols will sign with a team for 1-10 years for more that 20 million annually.

ESPN: Have we mentioned that the Cubs haven't won since 1908 yet?

Wouldn't be complete without a little Bostonian sour grapes.

Now I know it's true. Welcome, Theo.

My friend said he heard the Red Sox want 2 maybe 3 Prospects in return for Theo. One Top 10 guy. His guess was something like Flarehty and Carpenter.

That would be make sense, considering what the Sox got for Guillen. I'm kind of expecting that we've seen the last of Josh Vitters once this deal goes through

Honestly, I don't want him if it takes that much.
