The only thing I can think of is that Zook thought they were so close to the end zone that they might not ever be that close for the rest of the game. You need a TD anyways, and a 4th and 2 conversion so close to the end zone seemed worth the risk. I'm not sure I agree with Zook there, but I can see arguments both ways.

Coaching decisions aside, Ron Zook has made Illinois relevant and has elevated the program. We will never be a perennial B1G contender, but we can be a solid program like Iowa if we continue to string together solid seasons. Everything is cyclical, and we're moving in the right direction. Just the fact that we are angry after losing to OSU is significant progress, seven years ago, we would have been happy to lose by less than forty.

So far, it just feels like this entire college football season is a big, stinking dud.

This game is playing like every other game between these two teams the last few years. Iowa jumps out to a lead and Northwestern gets back in the game by patiently moving the ball down the field.

 

The game always comes down to the wire with Northwestern making a play or two to pull off the win. Hopefully that doesn't happen this time, I'm tired of losing to these guys.

I wasn't even sure if we'd start the game tied, so 10-10 in the second quarter is pretty amazing. I'm expecting OU to be up by 3 TDs by halftime though.

the florida-au game was very ugly to watch. both teams are reeling from injuries to key players on offense, and both teams are really struggling at qb. I can only hope that Clint Moseley (the third option at the beginning of the season) built some confidence when he was given his shot in the second half. He wasn't great, but he at least allowed the O to have more than one dimension.
