Can a rookie of the year be obscure? In this case I think so.

Jerome Walton.

I remember seeing Lance Dickson in his big league debut. That didn't last long.

These guys are more epic fails than obscurities. Same goes for Harkey, which brings me to the suggestion of starting a thread for failures, busts, and dissapointments. That could be a long thread.

Homered in his first ML AB in St. Louis if I'm not mistaken.

Also, who could forget Anthony Young and his record losing streak?

I have Bob Patterson's autograph somewhere. I got it at old County Stadium in Milwaukee. He looked pissed when he was signing. I then found out we released him the next day.

Homered on the first pitch in his first MLB PA. There's like 20 guys to have ever done it.

Ced Landrum and Hector Villanueva were two of my favorites....Rick Wilkins isn't obscure enough to be mentioned yet?

Rick Wilkins. Now theres a guy I thought we'd be watching for years to come.

Unfortunately we did...for about 5 years at least.

Didn't he have his big year in 93 and then get traded early in 95?

I guess it was 5 years total, but I doubt anybody was hoping to see him for years to come until 93.

There was some Cubs relief pitcher (I think he was a reliever) who got taken out of a game in the mid-90's I think vs St Louis because of over heating and taken to a hospital I think. He was a big guy who had glasses and didn't look like a pro athlete. Any one know who I'm talking about because this thread reminded me of him.

EDIT: It was Chuck McElroy which has been mentioned already but I remember him because of this and his huge glasses.

i remember there was one season where i was in love with mickey morandini and thought he was the premier 2B in the game

Ditto. That must have been before I appreciated things like "statistics."

Derrick May. I thought he was going to be another Darryl Strawberry. Wrong!

I didn't look at any of the other responses, so I don't know if he's already been mentioned.

I mentioned him a few posts up. I remember trying to mimic his batting stance when I played Little League baseball back then.
