It's going to be interesting to watch these last ten games of the season. Barring a total collapse from one of Nashville, Detroit, or the Hawks, they should have the 4-6 seeds locked up, and I think it's very obvious that the 6th seed is a way better spot to be in than the 5th seed.

I've been of the thinking that the 6 seed is better than 4 or 5 lately. But I'm having doubts. I'm not all that excited about a first round matchup with LA -- they are closing in the division lead and the 3 seed. Especially since they would have home ice. If it's Dallas, then yeah, 6 is good. But if we could get the 4, get home ice against Detroit or Nashville, and then a potential second-round matchup against St. Louis (instead of Vancouver if we get the 6 and win the first round), I think that's a good thing.

 

And I'll bet St. Louis is rooting for LA to get out of that 8 seed too. That would be a tough matchup for them if Quick is on his game.

Maybe not tonight but he's been pretty good since he came here from what I've seen. Not great, but certainly good enough for a 2nd or 3rd pairing defenseman.

 

Eddie O was on the Score today and he mentioned that during the losing streak, Q was telling his guys to cheat a little bit on the defensive end to create more odd man rushes/offensive chances, etc. with the idea of ourscoring the opponent, but going onto that West trip we ran into some pretty good defenses who shut us down and really burned us. Since then the Hawks have been doing a lot less of that and have obviously seen better results.

 

I dunno how much of that is the reason why we're playing better. I'm sure it is part of the reason, but to me the main reason might be as simple as good goaltending vs. bad goaltending.

i think hitting rock bottom was what it took. we'll see if this is a mirage or if they keep this up and toews returns to pile on, but they are definitely playing much, much better in important ways

Just watched several replays of the hit. One of the angles makes it look really bad. I'm sure Vancouver will ham up the injury to try to get a longer suspension. I know it won't be taken into account, and the guy did leave the game, but it's hard to take that team seriously with how much they flop and feign injury.

The 6th seed, whomever it might wind up being, should be favored to win that 1st round series. So if the Blues and Canucks both win their 1st round match ups (seems pretty likely) the 4/5 winner will be at the Canucks in round 2. The 4th seed is guaranteed 1 home ice series and has a chance to host the WCF. In that scenario they still have to go through either Scum or the Preds. The 5th seed is guaranteed nothing but could host the WCF but still have to go through the 6th seed. The 6th isn't likely to get home ice at all and will have to face either the Canucks or the Blues on the road.

 

So let's say the Hawks get the 6th seed and the dream match up against Dallas. They then have to go to St. Louis and then to the winner of Vancouver vs. the 4/5 winner. If the Blues or Canucks choke in the first round, the Hawks would have to go to the 4/5 winner. If both the Blues and the Canucks choke in the 1st round, the Hawks either have to face the 4/5 winner or a suddenly hot 8th seed.

 

So really what it comes down to is what round would you rather face the Preds or Scum? Which teams do you most want to avoid?

The only reason I don't want the Hawks to get the 6 seed is that I think they match up poorly with LA, and LA is going to win the scrum for the 3 spot.

The Preds adding Radulov makes them kind of a wild card. I think Pred fans are overplaying how much of an impact he is going to give, but he certainly is a talent.
