haha, anyone see Kane's Superman goal in the skills competition?

Somewhere, the trade Kane crowd is thinking this:

THATS WHY HE HASNT SCORED ANY GOALS, CUZ HES BEEN TOO BUSY PLANNING THIS SUPERMAN BIZ. TRADE HIM! HE DIDNT EVEN HIT ANYBODY IN THE ALL STAR GAME!!!!!

I do not think anything like this would happen, but would you consider trading Kane for Getzlaf and a 2nd round pick? Maybe even see if you can get Selanne thrown in the deal somehow?

Getzlaf is a true center who usually performs well in the playoffs. Plus getting off Anaheim would have to have a positive effect on his performance. Truth be told I don't think Kane has ever been as good as Getzlaf was a few years ago. Getting him and a high draft pick seems plausible. Plus it still leaves the Hawks room and bodies to pick up a top 4 defenseman. Basically, as a Wings fan I would be much more afraid of the Hawks with Getzlaf than I would with Kane.

I am not saying the Hawks should trade Kane, I think they should be open to it if the right kind of move came around.

Why John McDonough may not be on board with that plan http://deadspin.com/5880445/

From a hockey perspective, it makes sense. From a marketing perspective, it probably doesn't.

I think the Hawks are re-established enough at this point to not worry about the fan backlash when it comes to making hockey moves, but it better work in the form of several rounds of playoff wins over the next couple of years. If not, it has a chance to be a decades long debate on whether addressing possibly short term hockey needs was worth letting go one of the most popular players in the NHL, a guy who was the #1 pick, co-led the resurgence of the entire franchise, scored the franchise's first Cup winning goal in 49 years, is/was the guy who took a lot of the media/PR load off of The Captain and a guy who will probably go on to a pretty long and successful NHL career.

A fascinating debate and one that speaks to the overall goal of professional sports in this era. I'd like to hear others' thoughts on it.

Getzlaf is still only 26. Plus if you can get a 2nd round pick from Anaheim, that is going to be a kind of high pick. I am not sure trading Kane for Getzlaf would be a one or two year fix.

I really like Kane and have no interest in pushing him out the door, but if his marketability increases his trade value it is absolutely a move I'd be interested in. The Blackhawks will take a hit if he leaves, but it doesn't have to be fatal. He's not the best player on the team, at best he's 3rd. And kids/ladies probably love him. But winning is what is bringing the fans back out to the arena. If they can make a smart hockey move that allows them to keep winning without Kane, the team won't miss him from a business standpoint.

But I don't think it can be something that drags on. You need to pull the trigger on a move or don't even talk about it.

Funny thing is that I was watching a video of the 2009 Breakaway competition which Kane was also in, and although it wasn't the first thing he tried, after not scoring the first couple of times, he randomly tried the exact same thing as he tried in this years competition except without the cape and glasses. He missed that one too and quickly went back to what he was doing before.

So that move has been in his repertoire for awhile.

That's odd timing if they are pushing Kane right now considering he's in the midst of his worst professional season. He's not having a terrible season or anything just not up to his standards. And in terms of star potential on the ice, I highly doubt he'll ever be a top 10 player at his best...he looks like he will settle into that 20-30 range, being a perennial all star but not amongst the games true elite. Then again, there have been plenty of players in all 4 sports that get pushed to stardom despite not being amongst the games very best.

Outside of Chicago, fans probably aren't paying such close attention to his "terrible season". The fact that he's an American player certainly wouldn't hurt from a marketing standpoint. Add in the fact that lots of people couldn't name 3 hockey players after Ovechkin and Crosby all they'd really have to do is get ESPN to start showing him as their only hockey highlight of the day. Voila, he's the face of the NHL in America.

That doesn't make him the best player but that doesn't stop Jeter from being the face of MLB (arguably) or Brady in the NFL.

heck if Kane starts getting Crosby style officiating, that would be a huge upside for the Hawks. Hawks would be on the PP 5-6 times a game.

Yeah pretty suspicious. Alain knows he can't let us torch him now because he won't be able to get it out of his head.

Wow. Open net and we can't convert. The Hawks are destroying Vancouver this period and have had several really really really good chances but can't score. It should be like 5-1 right now. Give credit to Schneider he's made some amazing saves.

Detroit and Nashville both won tonight (STL didn't play) so we really can't afford to have a game where we dominate the majority of it and take a tough luck loss as the goalie stands on his head. We need at least 1 point but probably 2.

Detroit is currently 5 points ahead of us, Nashville 2, and St. Louis 1 with 2 games in hand. We're in a really really dire position here and need to go on a hot streak on the road to even stay in the division race.

A Blackhawks defenseman almost blew the game with a terrible defensive one turnover right to a Canuck standing right in front of the net.

Anyone care to guess which Blackhawks defenseman it was?

Just [expletive] horrible luck today. The puck was about 0.5 inches from going in as it grazed off the inside part of the iron.

I swear we've had 7-8 chances where I'd say 50% of the time, a goal is scored, and we've failed on all of them. We'll probably lose this game in the last couple of minutes to to complete the punch in the gut.

Well at least we've secured a point in a tough road environment. But we should have taken this ish in regulation if not for horrible luck and fantastic goaltending by Schneider.
