The forecheck was tenacious. Shows what they can do when they go 100%, though in fairness I think the second night of back to back games started to show with SJ in the third also.

The Chicago Blackhawks assigned forward Ben Smith to Rockford of the American Hockey League on Monday.

...

Smith's departure likely paves the way for veteran Bryan Bickell to return to the lineup Wednesday night when the Hawks face the Wild in Minnesota. Bickell has been a healthy scratch for the last five games

I like Ben Smith but I thought he was over hyped after having a couple of good games in the playoffs last year. He will be a solid 3rd liner down the road. I wonder if they need Bickell to get some playing time to showcase for a trade?

I think we need to get Bickell some playing time because they really need him to contribute. I think you're right about Smith though. He hustled but just seemed to be overmatched in the corners.

In news no one else cares about...

Going to the Calgary game on Sunday night, pretty pumped. The only other Blackhawks game I've attended was the 2-0 loss to the Lightning last April. This should have a better result.

I kinda get the feeling that Ben Smith is Ryan Theriot on skates. He's undersized, scrappy and not as good as the average fan thinks. The difference being that Smith is a lot smarter than Theriot who, for a grit guy, seemed to make remarkably dumb mistakes.

I'd like to see them bring up Pirri for a while. Pirri has been doing pretty well at Rockford but more importantly it would allow the Hawks the chance to give Bolland a chance to get fully healthy. He seems to need that.

In other "news", I'm sorry to see Klinkhammer get traded. I have a friend with that same last name.

Emery is starting tomorrow night. This situation is getting interesting. A couple games, it was Crawford just getting a break. Now though I think he could actually lose the job.

I guess if Emery keeps performing he could lose the job, but my guess is it's more about riding the hot hand (plus trying to light a fire under Crawford) than actually threatening the job. There's still a long way to go, it's only three starts.

I hate how spaced out the last few games have been. Starting last Monday it's been Game-2 days off-Game-2 days off-game. 2 games in 9 days. The good thing is that teams are starting to catch up with the Hawks in games played, which needed to happen at some point. I just wish that point was after the Bulls season started.

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Chicago Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville is tinkering with his lineup as the team seeks its third consecutive victory when it faces the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday night at the Xcel Energy Center.

John Scott is scheduled to return to the lineup after being a healthy scratch the last six games. Scott likely will replace fellow defrenseman Sami Lepisto, who was in the lineup two games in a row after sitting out eight consecutive. Lepisto played 12 minutes, 31 seconds against the Islanders last Thursday night but then saw his icetime drop to 8:31 during the Hawks' 3-2 overtime victory over the Sharks on Sunday night.

That ought to put some jump in their lineup.

Didn't Lepisto take a pretty hard hit or something against the Sharks? If not, why doesn't Old Donnell sit instead?

I can't find it anywhere, who did they bring up to replace Smith on the roster?

why cant you just leave my life forever scott

You could have Todd Bertuzzi and Tomas Holmstrom.

Trust me, we'd take Holmstrom. Even Bertuzzi would be a big step up, but I don't think I'd be able to stand him wearing the Indian.

I actually wish Bertuzzi was still the surly dirty player he was when he was in Vancouver. I think he almost goes out of his way sometimes to not be a physical player. Almost like he is scared that something bad will happen again.

I also know that Holmstrom and Bertuzzi are a lot better than Scott, but having both of those guys playing forward is bad. At least one of them has to play in the top 6 and both are painfully slow. So 2 lines have an anchor on them. I would love to have just Holmstrom play 4th line minutes and on the PP.

Love me some Bolland:

Feeding off of questions from radio host David Kaplan, as well as fan questions, Bolland referred to Daniel & Henrik Sedin as “sisters”, while making some colorful comments about the city of Vancouver itself, referring to the city’s many “weirdos”.

In perhaps the least surprising move of all time, both defenseman Kevin Bieksa and head coach Alain Vigneault had a response for Bolland. Bieksa commented that Bolland was the one that looked like a girl, while Vigneault ranted for a bit before simply saying that Bolland had a face “only a mother could look at”.

The comments from Dave Bolland offended both Canuck fans and many women, with the latter up in arms over his use of the word “sisters” implying some sexist undertones. Obviously. Bolland also ignited quite the response on the Twittersphere, as his comments led to him trending in Vancouver.

Vigneault's full response:

"They've both been probably two of the best players in the NHL for the last five years, they've won a gold medal, and they are really involved in the community," Vigneault said.

"They are great examples for players in the NHL, and for young people. They are just two great young people. When you have, comments like Bolland's, he's obviously an individual whose IQ is probably the size of a birdseed.

"And he has a face that only a mother could look at."

Great, mother jokes.

Vigneault continued, stressing Bolland's comments were based in "stupidity."

"You're talking about two players who play with integrity, they play the right way, that are great examples of everything this game stands for," he said. "Then you have a birdseed like that making comments.

"Lucky his mother loves him."
