Goodbye, Koyie. Putting Clevenger on the 40 man is your signal to go.

I'm really happy for these guys. My sister's father-in-law is a sports agent, and I was talking to him a couple weeks ago. He was telling me how huge it is for these minor league guys to get Sept. call-ups, due to the money. I had never really thought about it like that before, but a lot of these guys are making $1500-2000 per month in the minors, but the pro-rated major league minimum is about $60,000 per month. That is huge for guys that didn't get huge signing bonuses. That definitely changed my outlook on calling up guys who may never stick on the major league roster long-term. With that said, I think both Clevenger and Dolis will be able to have decent ML careers.

I think meal money is around $110/day. That's a lot of taco bell.

60K/month is huge for anybody. Why couldn't I have been born with marginal big league baseball talent? That can't be right though, as I believe league min is 400someK. And who the [expletive] needs $110/day for meal money?

I get a bit confused about minor league salaries. Aside from the bonus babies and guys on big league contracts like Szczur, how much do they make? I remember hearing that most minor leaguers get something like 20K/year+meal money, unless they're on the big league 40 man, in which case they get closer to 50K/year.

On the road you're eating out all 3 meals. $110 sounds about right considering that these guys aren't going to be eating at Denny's.

On the road you're probably eating catered food at the ballpark for 2 of 3 meals.

Sleep til 10, late breakfast at hotel ($20).

Head to the ballpark at 2, have a late lunch in the clubhouse ($0).

Hit the postgame spread for dinner ($0).

Pocket $90.

"Let me tell you a little story about acting. I was doing this Showtime movie, Hot Ice with Anne Archer, never once touched my per diem. I’d go to Craft Service, get some raw veggies, bacon, Cup-A-Soup… baby, I got a stew going."

And don't ever eat a lunch and dinner that's not offered in the clubhouse.

yeah i like how in davearm's scenario the players are just eating [expletive] cold cuts for 2 meals a day during their two week road trips. "well i make millions of dollars a year, but if i go a little hungry and turn up at the ballpark at 2:30 there will probably be some sammiches laying around that i can dig into."

maybe they go to soup kitchens or beg for food outside mcdonald's for breakfast and pocket the whole thing.

First of all, we're talking about Clevenger and Dolis, not guys that make millions.

Second of all, clubhouse food is way better than you suggest.

Third of all, I wasn't suggesting that they eat two meals in the clubhouse *every day*. Some days they will, though.

Regardless, for guys coming up from AAA, what's available in the clubhouse is probably a huge upgrade compared to what they're used to eating on their own in the minors... which was probably a lot of cold cuts. You're a fool if you don't think guys like this are going to be pocketing the majority of that $110.

Yep, if I was a 24 year old kid up in the majors with additional income in Chicago after having to live in [expletive] Iowa all year long, I'd certainly put it in my 401k, and not actually enjoy my month in the bigs.

FOOLS ALL OF YOU!!!

If you play your cards right you should be able to have a really good time without having to spend much of it.

You're already unrecognizable as a baseball player, I'm not sure sneaking some saltines to the ladies is going to convince them to go home with you.

You aren't unrecognizable if you wear your uniform into the bar. And all you need is an imported beer, that should allow you to keep most of your per diem.

I'm betting these guys can have a ton of fun in Chicago even without eating $110 worth of meals a day.

This is what I would do:

Girl - "Oh I'm just kind of skank (teeheehee), what do you do?"

Dolis/Clevenger - "I'm a professional baseball player."

Girl - "Like OOOOOMG! Baseball players are like soooooo cute!" *gobble, slobber, swallow*

Oh jeez...Don't even get me started on them! Everything I said there reflects my thoughts on them to a tee! Skanks and hoowahs! Skanks and hoowahs! *fist pumps while dancing in a tight circle*
