[expletive] Baylor and [expletive] Ken Starr. Those [expletive] have gone back on their word and are now threatening to sue the SEC and Mike Slive personally. Therefore, there will be no press conference today. I heard that the vote was 12-0 to admit us, but the Baylor situation has halted the actual invite. Their only chance to be in a BCS conference next season is if they let us go and let Texas replace us ASAP. The longer this drags out the more they ensure that OU will jump ship. When they do, the conference is toast. Then Baylor will be lucky to get into the Sun Belt.

I heard the SEC vote was 10-2 to admit you.

But I hope Baylor doesn't [expletive] this up. The Big 12 is dead, just finish it off.

Oh you meant the original Big 12 vote. Ignore me.

Statement from Dr. Bernie Machen, Chair, Southeastern Conference Presidents and Chancellors:

After receiving unanimous written assurance from the Big 12 on September 2 that the Southeastern Conference was free to accept Texas A&M to join as a new member, the presidents and chancellors of the SEC met last night with the intention of accepting the application of Texas A&M to be the newest member of the SEC. We were notified yesterday afternoon that at least one Big 12 institution had withdrawn its previous consent and was considering legal action. The SEC has stated that to consider an institution for membership, there must be no contractual hindrances to its departure. The SEC voted unanimously to accept Texas A&M University as a member upon receiving acceptable reconfirmation that the Big 12 and its members have reaffirmed the letter dated September 2, 2011.

Thus the reason for the lawsuit I guess so Baylor gets something. Not sure what has changed over the past week. Last I had heard Texas had convinced Baylor to let A&M leave without any problems. Guessing the news about OU and maybe Texas looking at the Pac 10+2 convinced them to try to get something out of this.

What are they going to get out of this?

They are hoping money I guess. Trying to leverage this into A&M's exit fee.

There's not going to be an exit fee when OU leaves, which becomes more and more likely the longer Baylor drags this out.

Maybe if they can get the SEC to adopt Dr. Pepper as their official drink they will drop the suit ;-).

maybe they were trying to do you a favor and give you time to rethink your ultra-lame on-campus celebration/party.

I'd rather go to Conference USA than the SEC. West Virginia is crazy enough to be the 14th team, invite them.

I'm still not convinced FSU doesn't try to wrangle an invite. They were showing interest initially and the ACC could be raided at any point Delaney decides to expand.

Dear Jayhawk:

Amid the latest round of conference realignment discussions, I want all KU alumni to know that Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little and Dr. Sheahon Zenger, KU athletics director, are aggressively pursuing the best possible outcome for KU. As the chancellor expressed yesterday, they will continue to keep our community informed.

The unsurpassed loyalty of the Jayhawk Nation is one of KU's greatest assets. Thanks for all you do to strengthen KU.

Panic in Lawrence?

How in any way does this signal panic? I got that e-mail and thought, well, that's nice, they are letting us know that they are working on the situation. Worst case for the Hawks right now is the Big East. Absolute worst case. And that's not that bad.

yeah Kansas is in way better shape than K-State, Baylor, Iowa State, that's for sure. I don't see them getting left out in the dust.

Iowa State is absolutely screwed. Not that they shouldn't be. Do they bring anything to the table?

Conference USA over SEC? You guys are [expletive] nuts. SEC is the best option not named "B1G."

I'm sure it'd be a wonderful fiscal decision that makes my fandom borderline miserable.

[expletive], I just realized we might wind up stuck with Mizzou in the Big 10. What a nightmare.

Needs more Sun Belt, IMO

Maybe I'm too optimistic, but having Delaney say quality over quantity would mean ND and a school out east (should push come to shove). And then hopefully no reason to go from 14 to 16 schools.

Being a Mizzou fan is already borderline miserable. I don't see the SEC making it that much worse. A non-BCS conference makes us 100% irrelevant.

I've heard rumors that they would go with Kansas and Kansas State to the Big East. That would get them to 24 basketball teams and 12 FBS teams, I believe.

Eh, if things start shifting around, they're going to have to go to 16. I think Mizzou honestly fits in better than most schools would and they bring the St. Louis (what Illinois doesn't already bring) and KC TV markets with them. Academics are good enough and it's much better geographically than others. Plus, there's already rivalries with Illinois and Nebraska.

I can't see ND ever giving up their NBC contract, so who knows where they end up. I'm sure they'll add the Pitt/Rutgers/ whoever from out east to get the NY/Philly market though.

Well that's what you get for being the mopey Mizzou guy. I'm being partly facetious because there's really no scenarios that have Mizzou in a non-BCS conference at this point. But still, aside from "they have really good football teams and money", the SEC is a horrible landing spot. They are widely considered at the bottom of BCS conferences when it comes to academics, basketball, lunatic fanbases, ethics/corruption, obnoxious conference hivemind, etc.
