[expletive], I just realized we might wind up stuck with Mizzou in the Big 10. What a nightmare.

Maybe I'm too optimistic, but having Delaney say quality over quantity would mean ND and a school out east (should push come to shove). And then hopefully no reason to go from 14 to 16 schools.

ND's obviously the big prize for the Big Ten as long as Texas holds on to the LHN. I imagine the 14th would come down to Syracuse, Maryland, or Missouri. Missouri keeps the conference more centralized, and has a better in-state population for BTN subscriptions than Maryland.

Being a Mizzou fan is already borderline miserable. I don't see the SEC making it that much worse. A non-BCS conference makes us 100% irrelevant.

Well that's what you get for being the mopey Mizzou guy. I'm being partly facetious because there's really no scenarios that have Mizzou in a non-BCS conference at this point. But still, aside from "they have really good football teams and money", the SEC is a horrible landing spot. They are widely considered at the bottom of BCS conferences when it comes to academics, basketball, lunatic fanbases, ethics/corruption, obnoxious conference hivemind, etc.

Every conference has things like that to an extent, though. Florida, Kentucky, Vandy, Mizzou, A&M isn't a bad top-five for a basketball conference. I don't buy that football would be a bottomfeeder in that league at all (they'd struggle at first, I'm sure, and they probably won't compete for conference titles in football, but it wouldn't be much different than it is now), and they could do big things to their facilities and to the athletic department as a whole with that type of money coming in.

That's a bad top 5 for a basketball conference. Probably the worst of the 5 big time conferences.

I don't know how strongly the Big East feels about allowing ND to keep its nonfootball sports there without joining in football, but if the rumors of them eyeing Kansas, K-State and Mizzou are true then the Irish may not need to consider a football conference.

I'm not sure how important the NBC contract will end up being. It expires after the '15 season and considering the low ratings NBC may look to go elsewhere or offer ND much less money than they could get from, say, Fox.

Dear Jayhawk:

Amid the latest round of conference realignment discussions, I want all KU alumni to know that Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little and Dr. Sheahon Zenger, KU athletics director, are aggressively pursuing the best possible outcome for KU. As the chancellor expressed yesterday, they will continue to keep our community informed.

The unsurpassed loyalty of the Jayhawk Nation is one of KU's greatest assets. Thanks for all you do to strengthen KU.

I can’t tell what you’re getting at with this. How do you think that move impacts Notre Dame?

And that Big East scenario would be worlds better than the SEC. Keep the traditional rivals, plus the Big East gets strengthened big time with a conference championship game, and by adding the STL/KC markets. The basketball conference would be insane, and the divisions break out perfectly in football and almost perfectly in hoops(Villanova or Georgetown probably moves to the West).

And if it plays out that way, all I have to say is, go [expletive] yourself Colorado. You reap what you sow.

Benson and DiStefano always maintained a major reason for CU joining the Pac-12 was that the schools matched Colorado's academic mission. While Oklahoma and Texas are on a par with CU academically, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State may not be.

"I believe that we should have a robust academic atmosphere among all schools in the league," Benson said. "What schools have cinch courses or gut courses? We don't have any and never will. The Pac-12 doesn't. Some Big 12 schools do."

Probably shouldn't have joined a conference with Arizona, Arizona State and Washington State if you were that interested in academics.

Before or after 3 of our schools left?

If after, before or after we add New Mexico State, Houston, and Wyoming?

Yeah, I'm a bit confused by the point Andy's trying to make, as well. Clarification?

I get his point, but I don't know exactly -- what is a "cinch" or "gut" course?

It's not like the Ivy League was ready to offer the invite.

Also, is Oklahoma really on par with CU academically?

This implies that Colorado is also a good school.

Boulder's pretty good, especially for a public school. #86 on US News & World Reports, Oklahoma's not far behind though at #111 so I guess I was mistaken.

Okie State - 136, Texas Tech 159.

Both Kansas schools are apparently joining Baylor/ISU as well.

The whole "ND might be forced to join a conference" meme was based on the thesis that the Big East would collapse with the advent of superconferences. My point was that if the Big East strengthens themselves by adding those 3 teams - and if they're willing to allow ND to keep its nonfootball sports - football conference membership might not be necessarily inevitable.

I understand why you'd prefer for Mizzou to join the Big Ten vs. the SEC, but bias clouds your judgement.

Mizzou would be middle of the pack academically in the SEC as Vandy, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Auburn all rank ahead of Mizzou academically per the US News yearly poll (measure used earlier in this thread). The association between the SEC and poor academics is legitimate but overstated on this forum.

How would you categorize fans who did not actually attend the university (or any university) in the Big 12 presently? I believe those types of fans disproportionately contribute to the SEC's reputation of having 'lunatic fanbases'. Are SEC fans on this forum unreasonable generally? I'm going to climb out on a limb and surmise that Redflash didn't attend the University of Alabama.

Ethics, corruption issues exist in every conference, but I agree the SEC has more than their share. The SEC addressed Medical redshirts, oversigning issues this past year, and I believe the conference is making some strides in this area.

I don't understand how you'd think joining Conference USA would be preferrable.

How did the sec address oversigning? And you honestly believe the sec is making strides in rules violations? Oh, I forgot that auburn totally didn't do anything illegal re Cam Newton.
