Phil Rogers says Ricketts may hire 'em all:

While the Cubs are taking steps aimed toward hiring Theo Epstein away from the Red Sox, it's possible they won't stop there. Executives with some other teams have heard discussions about the possibility Ricketts could attempt to hire two people on his list from the lengthy round of due diligence he has done on replacing Jim Hendry.

That would mean it's conceivable he could hire Epstein and someone on his secondary tier such as White Sox assistant general manager Rick Hahn or Braves director of pro scouting John Coppolella. The most likely hire to work alongside Epstein — as opposed to be sitting in the main chair — would seem to be Padres assistant GM Josh Byrnes, who was with Epstein from the start in Boston.

With awesome news, too.

By the way, I'm not sure anyone has brought it up, but by compensation, it could very well mean cash. If that' the case, it makes it that much easier of a decision for us.

It should be noted the same article also says:

Would the Cubs possibly try to hire Epstein and Hahn or Byrnes?

Sources close to Ricketts say it's possible but unlikely. And, after all, the Cubs have tried this model before, in the era when Andy MacPhail was president and Ed Lynch and then Hendry had GM titles.

If Epstein is interested in the Cubs job (which is already less than a perfect situation because both the farm and scouting director have been hired), the cost will be something he’ll have a stake in should it come to making a decision.

Good to know they're aware of this stupidity even in Boston.

Not much new in that piece, otherwise...other than maybe the fact that he states as fact that the Red Sox will seek compensation.

it's gotta be a positive sign that theo hasnt address the rumors or shot them down since the end of the season right? if he knew for sure he was staying with boston, he's probably have said it by now. his season ended a week ago.

gotta feel like he's at least entertaining the thought, meaning we have a chance.

hopefully no dumbasses from chicago send him a nike box

Ricketts needs to stop this right now. I know it's your family's new shiney toy and you want to play with it. Keep your hands off it. Hire the best GM and let him bring on his own hires. I've read that part of problem in Boston is a meddling ownership which wanted to make personnel decisions. We already have the makings of that here.

Ricketts needs to stop the media from reporting their opinions?

Filling every job in the front office, before the new GM is hired. That's doing Theo or whoever no favors.

Would you take a job of this importance without having the authority to hire your own staff?

Opinions are great. Just stop hiring these people and let the new guy do it. Rick Hahn, etc... maybe great, but that's up to the new GM whether he wants him or not.

He extended one person so he didn't leave the organization. Presumably so that the new GM doesn't have to work on the biggest offseason we've had in years AND hire an entire new staff around him immediately if he doesn't want to. There's also plenty of indication that firing or demoting Fleita would not be a problem if that's what the new GM wants.

HE HASN'T HIRED ANY OF THESE PEOPLE. IT'S SPECULATION FROM THE MEDIA.

What are you talking about? Forgetting about Tim Wilken?

Answer my question, please.

Wait, you're mad that it's rumored that Ricketts wants multiple GM candidates in the front office. So you think Theo wouldn't be asked about whether or not he'd sign off on that? That's insanity.

So you think Ricketts is just running around making these arrangements and making take-it-or-leave-it ultimatums to GM candidates? Again, that's madness.

Ricketts considering a handful of candidates might lead to media spec, but it's probably a better strategy than breaking out the I <3 Theo hoodie.

I think Ricketts' approach to the search has been great and almost unbelievably low-key until now.

LOL ok, sure.

Also, you tell 'em benchwarmer. Ricketts is clearly drunk with power. Someone needs to stop this madman before it's too late.

I could see that Beane would really covet the Angels job, but he's so so committed to family and lifestyle in California that I don't see him overly craving the Cubs job.
