The plot thickens. I can't wait till everything comes into focus. This place is going to blow up, down, and all around once something is announced.

Site has already been having issues when there hasn't even been even small news.

That's hopefully been resolved. See the "Site Suggestions" forum.

I really don't know how they'd manage a 100MM team next year with 75 MM already on the books between Z(18), Soriano(18), Dempster(14 option), Garza(7-8), Byrd(6.5) Marmol(7), and the 5 MM owed to Pena. Lets not forget any raises due to guys like Soto, Marshall, Castro, and Samardzjia. Pick up Aramis' option, and were well over 90MM without any additions.

I think they are going to tread water for at least a year or two until Soriano's contract comes off the book. They might be able to get rid of him and pay most of his money his last year and a half.

I also think the next GM will know that. Hendry and the Tribune/Zell are responsible for this mess and Cub fans need to be told what they are planning to do. If they have a plan that's articulated well by the next GM, I think fans will be patient.

Theo or whomever will know what he's/she's (Ng) getting into.

Also, Kaplin is a freaking clown.

There's a difference between treading water and what would become of The Cubs if they plan were a 100MM team. I'm assuming in such a case, they's let Aramis walk and make them even more unwatchable. They should also consider trading Byrd to anyone willing to pick up his whole salary. Opening day 2012 could look like

Jackson

Barney

Castro

LaHair

Soriano

Colvin

Soto

DeWitt/Baker

in such a nightmarish world. They wouldn't tread water. They'd sink like a sack of bricks. On the plus side we'd be plenty lefthanded.

this thread has blown up... what happened?

It's what normally happens when 100 people are waiting for 5 days with no real info creating their own speculation then drifting off into another topic. I saw the page count go up a lot from this morning only to find this. We better get an announcement one way or the other this week.

Bruce Levine chat "at 12"...doesn't say which time zone. Supposed to talk about Theo. Likely nothing new, but here's the link...

http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/cubs/post/_/id/6733/chat-alert-levine-talks-theo-cubs-at-12

Not surprisingly this chat was useless.

Someone took the time to actually care about and find this chat and ask this question:

Tommy (Green Bay) (Green Bay)

Any chance K-Rod comes to the Cubs?

That amazes me.

A small tidbit from the chat.

Bruce Levine

(1:25 PM)

The Cubs will eat a good portion of that contract if they can open up LF for someone else. His 26 homers and 88 RBIs are something an AL team should be interested in for the right price. My gut is that, if Epstein is the guy, it will be this week. There has been too many baseball people that feel Theo is in the midst of trying to get the best deal he can with the Cubs.

Hopefully, that's all it is... Theo knowing how badly the Cubs want him and maximizing his leverage to get the most money he can.

Has anyone outside of Levine ever mentioned/confirmed that Friedman has an ownership interest in the Rays?

Yeah that's the second time I've heard him say that. I thought the first time he was mis-speaking and just trying to say that he had strong ownership support, but this time he was pretty clear that he thinks that Friedman has some ownership in the Rays.

Have you ever been so bored you daydreamed so hard that you almost believed that what you were daydreaming about actually happened?

I think Bruce Levine does that a lot.

What's that? You wanted to know Bill Simmons' thoughts on the topic? Well alrighty then...

http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/red-sox/post/_/id/14871/b-s-report-podcast-olney-simmons-talk-sox

Also, from Olney in that chat...

as one GM said to me over the weekend, he’s gotten this far says that if they make him the right offer financially, this GM said he has no doubt Theo is going to go.”

Theo probably knows he's no good at free agency and is trying to get Ricketts to lower the payroll.

Yeah, he knows his real strength is making trades, so he's been reading a list of cubs with no trade clauses for the better part of a week.

I saw 3 new pages from this morning and got really excited that something was breaking.

This sucks.

if something breaks, the threat title will change

Might even just start a new one and lock this sucker.

I wouldn't bother. It will turn into this one, and the moment any actual news comes out, 11 different threads will be started.

Thanks a lot. 10 minutes in and the only thing I've heard is talk about needing personality and that nonsense.

(The podcast is embedded at right. The 10-minute Red Sox discussion comes from the 8-minute mark to the 18-minute mark.)

not that I consider him a good source

but

Dan Patrick was pretty convinced that Theo was Chicago bound.

In an opinion way or in a reporting rumor/news way?

I hope that whatever our infrasructure is organizationally speaking, it's not so bad that it keeps Theo from accepting the gig. Because evidently, we really need major changes in this area and getting him over some of the other candidates would probably help bigtime in this area.

Asked friend of Epstein if that was Theo spotted in Chi. Answer: "That would be a pretty good bet." #Cubs #Redsox #wheresmokethereisfire
