If the Red Sox are seriously ask for Castro or Garza for this as the Globe suggests, they can keep Theo.

Uhhhh link?

Made me laugh when I read it.

YOU SEE WHAT YOU'VE STARTED CUBINNY???

But yeah, that's just some loudmouth Boston writer feeding his masses. The Red Sox will not be requesting Castro or Garza in return for Epstein.

Posters on SoSH are wanting similar packages. They want us to have to take Lackey, and give up Garza/Castro.

They're going to be very disappointed.

I'd take Lackey and part of his contract because he's never pitched in the NL. Besides, I don't think Epstein would want to come over if we gave away our 2 best players.

How do we know what Boston will or will not request? There's no real precedent that I'm aware of, so I don't see how anything can be ruled out.

Plus, the GM position has become more and more high-profile, and Epstein is widely considered one of the best, so he's clearly a valuable asset. I wouldn't be surprised if they put a high pricetag out there.

I would be thrilled if the Cubs got Epstein and Lackey for Zambrano.

I can only assume that Cafardo saying the Red Sox should demand Castro and Garza for Epstein is his way of saying the Red Sox shouldn't let Epstein go.

Because they're not run by Chuck LaMar.

Red Sox fans are so annoying. Everytime I read ANY Red Sox fan perspective on Theo leaving they make the "har har har they can have theo...as long as they give em lackey har har har" OK we get it you don't like Lackey. Have some self-awareness and realize that you aren't being original when you say that.

Mostly joking here but would anyone bite on this:

Epstein and Crawford for Soriano and Garza, contracts are taken straight up.

Yeah me neither.

i'm so glad none of our fans ever make dumb ass jokes like that

BUT WHAT DOES BIGBIRD HAVE TO SAY ABOUT IT?

It's not even that the "joke" is that stupid, its that every Red Sox fan that I've talked to or read has made that joke and they all seem to think they are the first person to make that joke. We get it Lackey sucks and you are mad at Theo for signing him.

Levine's take...

http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/cubs/post/_/id/6691/epstein-is-everything-ricketts-wants-in-gm

A baseball source close to Epstein told ESPNChicago that he would love the challenge of bringing a championship to a franchise that hasn't won in 103 seasons. The same source however cautions that Epstein, a Brookline, Mass., native, loves his job with the Red Sox and his family, including his wife and 3-year-old child, are entrenched in the Boston area.

SportsNation

Baseball people gained a tremendous respect for Epstein almost 10 years ago when he began his journey as a GM, meshing the world of traditional scouting with sabremetrics by hiring the well-respected and accomplished Bill Lajoie as his top major league scout. Lajoie, who built the 1984 World series champion Detroit Tigers as GM, was 68 when he was hired by Epstein in the young GM's first official move.

Epstein would also bring a new day of hope to the Cubs fan base which is growing restless paying the third-highest ticket prices in baseball. The Cubs have been a huge disappointment the past two seasons, finishing fifth in the NL Central.

Industry sources are convinced if the Red Sox allow Epstein to interview he is as good as the next Cubs GM.

Does anyone know anything about the blog "Bleacher Nation"? Are they legit? They post a couple of interesting nuggets from a "tipster". Regardless, its something to discuss:

http://www.bleachernation.com/2011/10/04/obsessive-cubs-gm-watch-tipster-says-well-probably-know-one-way-or-the-other-on-theo-epstein-this-week/

A well-connected tipster tells me that the Red Sox are determined to have the Theo Epstein issue settled, one way or another, by this week. It is causing them issues with respect to their manager search, so they want to nail things down. The decision on Epstein this week may also make the decision on assistant GM Ben Cherington – namely, if the Cubs nab Epstein, Cherington gets promoted. If the Cubs don’t grab Epstein, they may instead get a chance to interview Cherington.

The same tipster hears the “compensation” in an Epstein acquisition could just be financial, but cautions that, as we have seen with Tom Ricketts, very few people know anything concrete – tips and rumors, including his own and those from big-time news writers, should be taken with a grain of salt.

LOL how does a 3 year old child get "entrenched" anywhere? At that age they go wherever mommy and daddy take them its not like they are in school and have friends there. If he had older kids I could see that making a difference but a 3 year old isn't old enough to care about moving yet.

His family is entrenched. His 3 year old is just a part of said family.

Yeah, that's my site. I can't speak to whether it's legit (I like to think it is...), but I can say that this particular tipster is in another MLB front office. So, I suspect he's at least heard some things. The important point is that even he is quick to caution that this particular search has been incredibly quiet - Ricketts is good at keeping things from leaking, apparently - and the little bits coming out are mostly coming from the Red Sox side. And even those have to be taken with a big grain of salt.

I really wouldn't mind Lackey. He's playoff tested and approved, and getting out of the AL East is good for any pitcher's numbers.

Speaking of which...You guys know how many seem to assume the Yankees will chase CJ Wilson this offseason...if they are and say CC opts out...What about the Cubs going after CC? There's alot of wear and tear on that arm, but there's alot of body to take the wear and tear too. What could a Fielder/Sabathia offseason do for the Cubs? I'm asking because I'm bored and I want this whole offseason thing to start...while at the same time the playoffs are just getting good.
