considering the lock-out, the o-line being reshuffled, and lack of practice, I can accept a bad performance especially with a defense that has only one goal, sack the QB.

but jesus it just seems like this is the way Angelo wants to play the game. 9 SACKS. thats an epidemic

The thing about the line reshuffling is it's all the same ingredients. A couple guys are playing different positions, but the only people unfamiliar with the system are the now backup C and the 1st round rookie RT. All the other guys have been on this team and with each other for "reshuffling" to be a somewhat weak excuse in my opinion. The problem is quality of the players more than anything.

Ideal scenario for me. Louis out, Garza to G, Spencer to C, Replace Williams with Brian Waters. Switch the tackles.

well, yea, that's obviously the issue

Well, the Bears OL is decent against the Bills' second team defensive line.

I don't think Webb and Williams should be starting period.

Williams was fine in the game. I didn't see him make any terrible mistakes. He got out on the 2nd level in the run game also. Garza was the one who whiffed on Merriman when he stunted inside from Webb. Louis was terrible. On the Webb holding play, Louis gave up pressure right up the middle and Cutler couldn't step up. He also gave up 2 sacks on Hanie.

Reading multiple reviews of the game, looks like you're right about Williams/Garza.

I wish they'd make the obvious swap of Carimi and Webb so Carimi can get as many reps as possible against Merriman types. Also want to see Spencer inserted into the lineup wherever he'll be (preferably C with Louis out) so he can face more 1st team defenses.

The Angelo quotes are BS to cover up his poor job of adequately stocking the line. The young players getting reps is a straw man, no one is complaining about the only rookie in the starting 5.

I wonder how solid the interest in Colon was for the Bears. The beat writers seem to be throwing "well they went hard after Colon but couldn't sign him" around every time someone questions the lack of FA moves for the o-line. I'm sure the Bears liked him and would have signed him, but once they got rejected, why didn't they target anyone else? It's not like there was a huge talent gap between Colon and other FA G's and T's. I don't recall the Bears being in on any other FA OLer's besides Colon and Spencer, who they signed. So their plan was to....go hard after Colon and if they don't get him just stick with an inexperineced young line protecting the franchise QB for a team with Super Bowl aspirations?

The writers are seemingly throwing out that excuse, which doesn't make a lot of sense. If they knew things were so bad that they had to spend big on such a player, how could they pretend things are fine when they didn't get that player? This isn't really a question of trying to get better, they had to get better on the offensive line.

John Mullin is so deep in bed with somebody at Halas Hall. He spends the majority of every report he has defending inadequacies in the organization, and the other half critiquing critics.

With the cap space the Bears have, it would seem to be worth it to sign McKinnie to an incentive-laden deal and just pray he can drop 30 pounds by midseason.

Charlie Johnson, the LT the Vikings signed from the Colts to replace him has been getting destroyed by Allen in camp so the Lions and Packers should be licking their chops.

Nathan Enderle is creeping towards the back-up QB spot.

Yeah, apparently Enderle got 2nd team reps today, and Hanie was visibly upset as he left the practice field, and didn't talk to reporters.

Not saying it was or wasnt the right decision but boy to the Bears treat Hanie like crap. I can't think of anything he's ever done terribly wrong. He's played well just about every preseason he's played and in his biggest moment in his career he played admirably for a guy who hadn't been in a live game situation in 5 months. And what does he get? Behind proven washed up garbage Todd Collins. I don't watch the practices and see what the Bears see but after the performance in the NFC title game (yes I know he made some big mistakes but he moved the offense better than the other 2 QBs that played) which came after being third on the depth chart all season the Bears would at least let him be 2nd in the depth chart until he plays his way out of it during an actual game where he might see action.

Saints cut Jonathan Stinchcomb. He's not the same as he used to be due to injuries, but it's another option if the Bears decide to start look at FA again.

He was a Pro Bowler just 2 years ago. I say take a flier on him and bring him to camp. Could be a lesser version of Reuben Brown.

That said, I doubt they get any FA lineman at this point. They've repeatedly said to the media that they are giving their young guys a chance to develop, and nothing short of the line failing as bad as they did on Saturday for the next 3 preseason games, will get them to change their stance.

Then again, they might bring him on as a backup and as soon as one guy isnt getting it done in the regular season, replace him.

I don't trust Martz one bit on personnel decisions. Martz was the guy who wasted a whole quarter playing Todd Collins against Green Bay when Haney clearly was the better QB and every Bear fan alive knew that but Martz didn't.

Stinchcomb was a fan favorite and leader in New Orleans. For them to cut him, he had to have been pretty bad. He was hurt all last year and was bad. SAck numbers don't show because Brees is pretty much amazing. Same with Peyton in Indy. I think he may be done in the league.

Probably wouldnt end up working but what would we have to lose? We have the cap space, we have a need. Sign him as a backup and give him 2-3 weeks to evaluate.

But as I said, I doubt it would happen. Angelo just passed on an opportunity to sign proven talents through FA, I doubt he'll admit he made a mistake and start taking on projects 3 weeks before the season starts.

Well they already signed a washed up fan favorite and team leader, so they clearly didn't need him anymore.

Whatever fire line coach Mike Tice lit under Webb after the game — and the guess here is it was a multi-alarm blaze — it worked Monday afternoon. Webb was as intense as he has ever been in practice, walling off Peppers in one-on-one pass-rushing drills.

"I can't wait to see the film," Tice said. "I know for a fact that was his best one-on-ones. He's a hell of a talent. He just needs to realize that just because you're gifted, it's not going to be easy."

Webb and the offensive linemen ran sprints after practice, something they don't do very often.

"I took it upon myself to practice with more of a purpose and practice with more intensity," he said.

Enderle ahead of Hanie is crap

Martz on Hanie:

"There are sometimes when he's missing some throws that he shouldn't because he's just not setting himself right," Martz told the Tribune last week. "What he's doing with his eyes (and) technical stuff … the only way you fix it is by playing."

Weird that a young mostly unproven player like Webb would need a fire lit under him 2 weeks into training camp but ok.
